The snow has returned, rocks are covered, and landings are soft! Made my way up the tram and towards Great Scott. The center punch line is filling in nicely but there are still sharks lurking. The Hanging Bowl double is ready and there were some target landing spots off the double.

Back at it after 3 weeks of resting from a concussion. We are currently in a high-pressure zone so it has been sunny, bluebird, and the groomers have been perfect. This section of Great Scott rarely has this amount of snow to be able to ski from the top. This entrance is a tight line, steep line with the need for some precision jump turns between the rocks and then goes into the main part of the run. The lower section was perfect wind buff ready for some high-speed GS turns.

T2B Tuesday are back! Everything is filling in nicely and thank you Snowbird Ski Patrol for all the hard work and getting Peruvian open! Upper Silver Fox is one of my favorite runs and there are so many different lines, but I always like to open the year up with this one. Skiing around the rocks, fighting against the avalanche debris and bumps, and hoping the legs hold up through the high-speed straight line in rock chute.

Slow start to the season but we are finally back after a long break from skiing... It's shark season, so being light on your feet and pinning it in technical spots is essential in order to keep from getting taken down or destroying your edges. This was the first day Rock Chute was un-roped so I threw on the rock skis, scoped it out, and then went for it.

Nothing like a spicy straight-line to get your blood flowing. Forbidden Zone looked great after getting a few inches of snow over the last week but there are always rocks lurking underneath the surface. During this line, I wasn't too concerned about the rocks/shrubs and was more focused on the traverse at the exit of the line.

Low tide conditions exist, but that only means more technical lines and a need for an Amazon Subscribe & Save for P-Tex. Low Tide = Best Tide. Without any recent snow, the top portion of Great Scott is half dirt and half snow. The top entrance has a few chocolate chips while the main entrance looks like someone spilled a pepper mill. Sidestep your way down or send it straight.

Spring has sprung (except for today) so I visited our neighbor over the weekend. The Baldy boot pack via Snowbird was an easy walk and everything was open on the Alta side of Baldy. Little Chute has a nice chokepoint created by side slippers and the snow was choppy buff. Unfortunately not telemetry for this one. My GoPro didn’t get any accurate GPS data.

Baldy opened up for the season and I headed straight up for a few laps. It takes some extra time to get up there without taking the tram. I opened up Baldy with the first two tracks down Center of Gravity. It was tight and some sharks were lurking below. I kept the speed down and chose to make more turns.

After timing rope drop on The Cirque, I headed straight to Dalton's for a T2B. A small straightline off the top into field goal air and then towards the left cliffs. I got a little caught up in the deep snow so my route was altered but you have to adapt when skiing a line blind.

This area is known to be rocky and unforgiving. The name says it all and every turn has to be calculated or sharp, jagged rocks are on the menu. Now that we have had some snow and a good base, this area is fun to play around in and practice some jump turns.

Not much snow has forced me into finding some unique entrances into the typical trails. Crawling over rocks, many jump turns, and using the green belay.

Low tide conditions may exist but the good snow and good times are still out there! This zone has become one of my favorites and what makes Snowbird what it is. Raw, rocky, steep, technical, and nothing fancy. Marcus Caston introduced me to this zone during my first or second season at Snowbird. It was on the right side of Organ Grinder where it looked like there wasn't enough snow for anyone to ski it and that type of terrain isn't anything like what I came from at Hunter Mountain in NY. He proved me wrong and that opened my eyes to what was actually skiable.

The whole mountain is skiing fantastic right now. A lot of lines have filled in over the past week and it's great to get back on the Peruvian side of the mountain. Ski patrol had quite the week, so if you see one of them, definitely thank them for the incredible work they have done. This T2B is a short but quick line that has tight turns between trees, a small committing drop, and a tight straight line.

Lower Silver Fox has always been one of my favorite runs and leg burners. It's got buff, a double fall line, a gulch, bumps, shrubs, and open terrain. Even with this low tide season, there is still a lot of fun to be had all over the mountain. Sharpen those edges and get your knees ready!
