We'll claim, in our unbiased opinion, that this is one of the heaviest and most well rounded segs of the year. Ahmet crushed. 'Nough said.
the trailer for the 15th annual ski motion picture from Level 1
Presented by Outdoor Tech, Anon, Sony Action Cam and Newschoolers.com
If there?s anything that we can say for certain after spending the past three weeks reviewing this year?s Superunknown entries, its that the talent pool has never been deeper, and there?s more variation in style, influence, and inspiration than ever before.
Superunknown XII drew in nearly 100 entries from around the globe- some were all street, others all park. some all pow and big mountain, and others a mix of everything. Figuring out how to compare and judge one against the next was a huge challenge, and while we can?t say that we have the perfect formula, after spending countless hours consulting with athletes, media, and the Level 1 staff and rewetting most of these entries more times than we can count we have a list of 17 Semi-Finalits, and 9 Finalists that we stand behind.
We?ll be dropping Semi-Finalist all week long, starting with four today. On Friday afternoon we?ll kick off the fan poll for you all to choose the 10th spot in Finals, so watch closely, spread the word, and help us figure out who should join the other Finalists in April for a shot at taking home the title!

We've said it before, and we'll say it again- it's NOT getting any easier to chose our Finalists, and the line between these entries and our Semi-Finalists is a thin one, to say the least. However, after weeks of reviewing them all, watching them dozens of times over and over, and polling a panel of our athletes, crew, and people throughout the ski industry whose opinions we respect the most, these 9 entrants rose to the top, based on their style, creativity, skill, and the long term potential that we feel they have.

Every year there are at least a few SuperUnknown entries that fall into the ?must see? category even if they don?t make Semi-Finals or Finals? these are the Honorable Mentions!
Presented by Winter Park Resort, Wells Lamont, evo, and Newschoolers
Winter Park Resort has rolled out the red carpet for SuperUnknown Finals yet again, stacking some of the most technical jib and jump features we’ve seen yet and delivering on our request for blue skies and warm spring temps (at least for the first couple days!). This year’s crop of Finalists is our most global yet, brining their individual styles and skill sets from 8 countries around the world- each with a unique approach to skiing which is guaranteed to make this year’s Finals a tough one to judge. Stay tuned for more episodes dropping with plenty more hot action from Winter Park, Colorado!

"13 Years deep and this is the most talented crew of Finalists we've seen yet" claims Level 1's Josh Berman. No joke. Each and every one of this year's 10 Finalists has what it takes to have walked away with the win, with a level of creativity, skill, and style unlike anything this contest has seen yet. The bar was raised throughout the week, votes were cast by all the riders, and when the dust settled and the numbers crunched, Keegan Kilbride was awarded the 13th annual SuperUnknown Title.

Will Wesson's 2015 self-edit, compiled from footage gathered from his trips with Level 1 and Traveling Circus. Proudly supported by Scott, Line, Outdoor Technology, Orage, and Bern. Enjoy!
As the week in Winter Park went on one thing became clear, it was would be exceptionally difficult to determine a winner for SuperUnknown XV- each and every one of the 10 Finalists brought their unique skills and style to the shoot- and each and every rider stood out for a different reason.
Level 1 presents Freehand. Featuring the skiing of Jake Mageau, directed by Brady Perron. Supported by Fat Tire, Tall T Productions, ON3P Skis, Xevo Optics, and Wells Lamont.
An unconventional piece from an unconventional year. Leaving behind the arbitrary time constraints and lofty expectations of XGames Real Ski, last winter Jake skied for the love. Living in the same Salt Lake City neighborhood as Brady, they shot all year within 30 minutes of their homes, forgoing travel to find inspiration nearby. The result is a piece that only they could have created - down to earth, accessible, creative, and mind-blowing, all at once.

Head on over to http://clip.oragemasters.com/level1 and give this edit a "like" to help us win some cash to pay our union dues! Level 1 Constructions did work at the 2013 Orage Masters in Sun Valley, ID. Some traffic control, double front cone bonks, 2000 feet of caution tape, smoke breaks, more than a few beers, and triple back flips, all in a days work. After a long day on the job our crew of Mike Hornbeck (foreman), Chris Logan, LJ Strenio, and Banks Gilberti walked away with the win. Contact our union rep to file any complaints or grievances.

Director Josh Berman recounts the back story of this shoot:
This one has been in the making for a few years. When we last shot in Whistler back in 2013 for Partly Cloudy, we approached them with the idea of a giant step-up to step-down and the snow just didn?t cooperate. Snow levels again worked against us in 2014 and we scrapped plans altogether, but this year?despite the challenging winter that the Pacific Northwest experienced?the stars finally aligned and Chris McLeod [film and communications supervisor] and Charles Beckinsale [head park builder] worked to find a location that had the terrain and the snow to accommodate our feature. Charles is a wizard with the cat and ultimately made some tweaks to our design to fit his vision, and the end result was one of the most impressive snow sculptures I?ve ever seen. The lines were so smooth and the aesthetic so unique that we opted to not sheer the wall of the step-over. I know Charles really wanted to cut it, and the feature would have looked 10-times gnarlier, but it was so perfect that we didn?t want to change anything. And we figured we?d save Whistler Blackcomb some money on the already stretched cat budget!
About Small World:
Go out into the world, they say? see it for yourself!
But in an age where any destination is in the palm of your hand- just a click away, what is left to truly explore?
Level 1 examines the universal dialect of moving down snow on two feet through a lens of fresh perspective- documenting the outer niches of a sport pushed under the rug by the modern day ski zeitgeist.
From the secret valleys of Switzerland, the ancient cities of Estonia, to the rowdy rope-tows of Minnesota- follow us around the globe as we capture skiing in its purest form. It?s a Small World, after all.
