This backpack is one of my favorite packs for skiing with as it has a very small profile and a whole lot of features.
There's four pockets, one small one to stash your phone and wallet or some peanuts or something, one medium wallet that looks like it'll fit a small shovel, and one bigger main pocket for anything you can think of. The last pocket is on the front of your backpack where you can stash a pair of goggles and that's lined with microfiber like material.
The backpack is super durable and the straps really help with distributing weight. The middle strap also has a sweet whistle that's super loud. I got the pack caught in a rope tow one and it ripped off one of the middle straps, but it didn't damage the rest of the pack as the straps are attached by a sort of clasping system.
This probably isn't the best backpack for school as it doesn't fit my 15 inch laptop, or many textbooks as the profile's pretty small. I was kind of bummed about this as the pack doesn't fit too much stuff at all really, although it's more than enough for a day or two on the hill. I don't do any backcountry skiing yet so I can't attest to that, but the weight distribution is good and it's comfortable so I'd imagine it wouldn't be too bad. Dakine packs haven't ever let me down and I still swear by them.
