Volkl Step 12/13 (w/ marker squires)
The Volkl Step is a full symmetric, 10% rockered park ski.
At 179cm it's dimensions are 112-85-112, with a turn radius of 23.4m. It has a 2000 series sintered base,a sidewall sandwich "Tough box" construction .
How the ski feels- The step is a medium flex ski with carbon ollie bands, giving it a forgiving flex but making it nice a poppy and lively. It handles long, fast carves nicely with little to no chatter or instability both forward and switch. The skis are very light making them easy to manage and throw about in spins. The rocker provides easy turn initiation, catch free-ness on lips and boxes and also can handle a bit of fresh snow or spring chopped slush. The sintered base runs fast if properly maintained giving you the speed for any size feature. Stable on landings of mid-large kickers.
Durability - Starting from the top, the top sheet is fairly durable with a rebate around the full edge of the sheet so as to minimise any chips. The side walls are a little soft and are prone to gashes from catching on the edge of the other ski in grabs, etc. The edges are quite durable with no edge cracks after 30+ days riding and only one ding through fault of my own. The bases are quite durable with only minimal surface scratches expected on any used.
Would recommend it to a intermediate to advanced park skier looking for a mid flex, lively ski to progress on both kickers and rails.
