Under Armour helping out fallen athletes

Under Armour is proud to support Cycle for a Cause riders with some warm UA gear for their 1500+ mile bike ride from Seattle to San Diego to raise awareness and money for Shane McConkey, Billy Poole and Riley Poor starting October 3rd.  Donations are now being accepted online, please click here
PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETES CYCLE FOR CHARITIES
Local Utah and National Professional Freeskiers and extreme athletes unite in West Coast Bike Ride to raise money for injured and fallen athletes and their charities.
Professional freeskiing athletes are on a mission the whole month of October along the Pacific Coast.  The “Cycle for a Cause” charity bike ride from Seattle, Washington to San Diego, California has been established to raise money and awareness for fallen and injured individuals in the freeskiing community.  The 1500-mile ride has been organized to raise money for the Billy Poole Ski Foundation, which benefits the Local Boys and Girls Clubs of Salt Lake City, the Shane McConkey Fund in lieu of the Make a Wish Foundation, and the NTAF Spinal Cord Injury Fund in honor of Riley Poor.
Utah freeskiing local, Billy Poole, was killed in a skiing accident here in Utah two years ago while filming with Warren Miller Entertainment.  Industry icon, Shane McConkey died this past winter in a Ski BASE Jumping accident while filming in Italy with Colorado’s Matchstick Productions.  Ski industry cinematographer, Riley Poor, sustained a paralyzing spinal cord injury last season while in Vermont at the Dew Tour, a freeskiing and snowboarding event.
With the spinal cord injury of industry cinematographer Riley Poor and the deaths of industry icons Shane McConkey, and Utah local, Billy Poole, fellow professional freeskier/BASE Jumper, organizer, and Utahan, Max Kuszaj, felt that something needed to be done.
“Losing two friends to skiing and then having a friend have a life-changing injury, really made me take a step back and realize what we do and what a tight-knit community we have with skiing.” “I organized this ride to do anything I can do to help those guys and benefit their families, try to make a change, and make the general public realize what goes on and what happens in the industry.” says organizer, Max Kuszaj.
The ride is open to all and has attracted the participation of many other ski industry athletes, like Utah locals, Pep Fujas, Julian Carr, Cody Barnhill, Jesse Hall, and Suzanne Graham. Other athletes include: Sherry McConkey (Shane’s wife), Peter Olenick, Simon Dumont, Jackie Paaso, Chris Ernst, JT Holmes, and many others.
A website has been established which includes how to donate, information, daily blogs, photos, videos and more about the ride.
http://www.CycleforaCause.com
People and companies are encouraged to donate per mile, to the cause, or using their own discretion. All money accumulated will be distributed evenly to the three organizations.

Level 1 Refresh World Premiere in Denver

by UnderArmour
Sep 14th 2009 - 6 comments

Friday night was the world premiere of Level One’s 10th movie, Refresh. I guess Josh didn’t realize how big he has become over the last 10 years as the movie had to start an hour and half late due to the massive line of people waiting to get in.

Under Armour athletes Tanner Rainville, Ahmet Dadali and Michael Clarke were signing autographs for fans while everyone was piling in to the theatre.

UA athlete and Denver local Bobby Brown also came out to check out Berman’s new movie, hang out with friends and mingle with fans.

Knowing Tom Wallisch would be at the premiere, I decided to give him a laugh and make a custom t shirt.

I even got him to sign it for me.

Refresh was an awesome movie with some old shots from back in the day when I used to shoot with Berman 10 years ago.  Sure makes me feel old, but good memories.
If you didn’t get a chance to make it to the Denver premiere but live nearby, be sure to make it out to the Boulder show as you won’t be disappointed.  I know I will be there to see it again.

It’s a bit ridiculous out there these days. I’m all for being original but this is going to far!I’m always glad Under Armour has gone in a real direction with it’s snow gear and not tight ass jeans and smoking jackets.

There are not too many places I have been to where you can golf 18 holes and 20 minutes later go snowboarding, that is why I live in Utah and take advantage of our wonderful mountain range we call the Rockies. The other day I started the first half of the morning at a popular snowboard spot called the “Bonezone”. We were up there messing around on a multitude of different obstacles freshly shaped by our endearing shovel blades, more or less it turned out to be a pretty fun back flip session. It was an awesome way to take transition from riding to now golfing. 15 minutes later I was home and changing my wet gear for some stylie golf attire and within 5 minutes I was at Willow Creek, (a fine turf field with holes in it over where I live.) Ecstatic with how my day was going some simple wagers were placed with my group. By the end of the round I was lucky enough to swoop up on 14 of the 18 skins available. This was no easy task since all of whom I was playing with are avid golfers and are no strangers to winning some scrap from me in the past. Best said by Ice Cube, ” Today was a Good Day”

Whats up everybody,
It's been a while since I've written an update, so I'll fill you in on what's been going on in my life for the last month or so. As some of you may know, I broke my collarbone in early March in Japan. After nursing it for 5 weeks the doc said I should be good to start shredding again which was perfect timing because I would have a week to get used to skiing again for WSI. So I drove to Whistler a week early and was giddy with excitement to get back out there.
My first run through the park I just straight aired all the jumps then went over to check out the halfpipe. It looked kinda gnarly because of some recent snowfall but I thought I might as well just slip through it and maybe do a couple 2 foot airs. On my last hit in the pipe I clipped the coping and put my knees into my chest...and heard a crack. I immediately knew what that sound was and could feel bunch warm blood rush to my freshly re-cracked collarbone. After getting some X-rays and talking to the doctor, I made the call to wait at least 8 weeks this time before I go skiing.
So its been 5 weeks since the re-crack and I am going crazy. Spring is my favorite time of the year to shred and I can't do anything but watch edits on internet of people killing park shoots...oh well, I guess this is just making me hungrier and more determined to git'er done when I'm back. I'll be back for MOMENTUM summer camps on the whistler glacier starting in mid June. Shout outs to my girlfriend Roz and my friends back home for keeping me sane during the last 5 weeks of down time...Later.

Hey guys, hope everyone had a fun end of the season. Mine went great, i spent the last month up in Tahoe doing a lot of filming on and off the resorts. We did this Academy snowboard camp at Boreal that went really well. I had 10 kids that i coached for 2 days it was really fun. Then i spent the rest of the month filming around ASI Sugar bowl and had some fun days at Kingvale. Everything was going great until literally the last day i planed to be in Tahoe. We were at Sugar Bowl it just snowed a foot and we were shooting on these log jibs in the trees, I hit this one that pretty small and flat caught my back edge monkey fliped strait to my shoulder and separated it as bad as it gets and had to have surgery. I’m all good know its been 4 weeks and I can already start using it a little. Here’s a couple photos of some of the things we did, the first ones this ledge i found way out in ASI on the train tracks, at first i wanted to set it up and slid the whole thing, then i ended up setting it up to do airs to the last little tranny super fun. This other on was really scary the trees were only 3ft apart and you had to go really fast to make it over the fence, the photos looked pretty crazy. Hope everyones enjoying the first part of summer and you’ll be hearing from me soon. take care peace>>asi

10 minutes with Justin Dorey

May 4th 2009 - 5 comments

Scott USA Team Manager Kevin Kruse sat down with Justin Dorey for 10 minutes to talk about how his season went this year, his plans for the summer and next season.  Here’s what he got.
Justin Dorey was a man on a mission this season and people started to notice that fact last fall in New Zealand. A Win at the US Freeskiing Open this year, along with two second place finishes at Dew Tour stops, and a fourth this year at X games has kept him busy. This week I was able to catch up with Justin here at the Freeskier Park Test in Keystone, CO and pick his brain about this season and things to come next season out of the young Canadian.
KK- What are you up to J-Bone?
JB – Heading to the airport with 2 of my 3 team managers that have been with me after we swing by and see Riley.
KK- What Happened to the Collar Bone?
JB- I was at a Quarterpipe show in Toyko and popped to hard/overotated a cork 5 and snapped my collar bone clean through. No surgery needed.
KK-What are your thoughts on your season this year-
JB- Pretty Stoked on my season, almost made it all the way thru without getting injured, always a big goal. I got my first win in a long time at the US Freeskiing Open, it felt great, hoping to notch up some more of those next year. I was hoping to be Teej’s partner at JOSS until the collarbone so maybe next year. But overall best season I have had to date.
KK-What are your plans for this summer and next season?
JB – Head to Whistler mid june to coach at Momentum thru late July, relax then head to NZ for a month or so to train pipe. Goals for next season, Dew Tour and X Games are my main focus along with a few slope events.
KK-Any Last thoughts thoughts/Shout outs
JB-Shout out to all my sponsors, mom and dad, friends, and Riley Poor who is being a huge inspiration for all of us right now.

some pictures and words from our trip to france

switch 9 mute

Salut,

Well me and Hornbeck made it to france, of course our bags got lost, so we had to drive back to the airport in the a.m. and cram all our bags into the little euro car that’s barely designed to fit children seats. After driving around the French countryside we made it to the alps which is crazy crazy big.

Me and Hornbeck used the first day to make a little edit of the mini park at sept leux, due to the  blinding fog and light rain.  Second day however was game time, look at these features.
Hip to mirrored hip, to bowl.

after a couple of speed runs I got a flat 450 shot.  They were so fun and well made that I had to try to giv er a double rodeo which I had learned about a month ago. The first attempt felt real good but landed to high then the next one I landed weird and drove my neck into the wall. The next day I was lucky to move my neck even inches without being in pain. Its still giving me some problems but you gotta do whatchu  gotta do.

On the down time ive been using it wisely to watch every episode of MIGHTY BOOSH, a  London show that is perfect for crackheads, but I love it. Watch it I dare you.

When i was finally able to move my neck we hit up a sick park called val d’isere, where we met up with a photographer taking pictures for peakphotographics.com-check it, here are pictures from that as well as others from the trip.

WINTER IS OVER.

Hey everyone, how’s it going? Winter is over, I had an all right season but most important it was extremely fun! I’ve learned so many new tricks, I started out the season with only a few now I have so many. There are a few videos on my web site from Woodward and form the season. Go to http://www.spencershaw.net. I don’t know if you have been in Woodward at Copper Mountain yet but its amazing. You should definitely check it out! There are four trampolines, three huge foam pits, snowboard jump with three different size lips and snowboard rails with a small quarter pipe. I have only rode the big jump but I have done Back rodeo, inverted seven twenty, switch back rodeo, switch nolly front flip, back flip and a double front flip. It was so exciting because you know you can’t get hurt. Louie Vito and I hit the trampolines before hitting the jump. We had a great time, after Woodward we were so tired. I went home and fell asleep. The following day the mountain closed, Reid and I hiked the pipe and Reid took video. It was sweet we took great footage. I’m only here for a short period of time. Then I fly back home to CT for the summer. This summer we I might go to New Zealand, Mt Hood or the gold camp. The gold camp is where riders go to train to make it onto the US snowboard team.

Keystone Park Shoot Begins!

April showers bring….. Spring Park Shoots?
That’s right, it’s the beginning of park shoot season baby! Wednesday, April 15th marked Level 1’s first day out at Keystone. With a predicted rainy day ahead of us, we made our way up to A51 to check out some of the features. Fortunately enough, the rain held off and we were able to get a full day in before the storm hit. On hand from Level 1 were the likes of Corey Vanular, Adam Delorme, Ahmet Dadadali, Mike Hornbeck, Tanner Rainville, and Jon Brogan. In addition, MSP brought out Russ Henshaw and Bobby Brown for the day. Tricks were stomped and shots were taken as some of the worlds best park skiers lapped a near perfect park…

Here I am sending it off the eighty foot jump Keystone pushed up for the shoot. I would assume it’s a cork nine tail as that’s about the only trick I do…
By the end of the day it was decided that we would postpone the week’s shoot till next Monday as some ugly weather began to roll in. However, Keystone asked me to head up with my fellow Keystone teammate Andreas Wiig to get some shots for next year’s ad campaign.

The two of us got sled laps on whatever features we wanted for the day. Here are some photos of what we were doing…

Here I am doing a little slide towards photog Dave…
Andreas drops a little hand plant on the spine. Shortly after this shot was taken, he flew off a ten foot drop to flat. Luckily he was fine and kept riding. As many may not know, Andreas actually broke another man’s arm during an arm wrestling match a few years back…
Wiig presses down the stair-set…
Barrel… I’m also a photo assistant…

With a heavy storm coming through the area this weekend, we head out again next Monday to finish up at Keystone…
Should be a good one…
