I don’t know about everyone else but it always irks me when insane stuff doesn’t get the full attention it deserves on here. I don’t think it’s anyone’s fault, but you’ve gotta call out the sick stuff when you see it!

100p. That opening shot absolutely blew my mind. Then he hits that AHall feature which I know is waaay harder to lace than it looks. When that Breck flag tap shot came up I nearly lost my mind.

I know a bunch of the shots are from last season but still this is nuts.

Really? When cutting this I thought the top down drone stuff was really cool. I feel like I rarely see this tried elsewhere in skiing.

I do know Pat keeps it scrappy and gets it where he can. Alot of these spots the only coverage was drone plus lockoff from top.

I appreciate a nice long lens landing angle as much as the next tho so I do see where you are coming from.

Yeah I remember his shots from those level1 movies, must’ve been almost 10 years ago now. Love to see the OGs still gettin it... just wonder how old they are and how many orthopaedic surgeries they’ve had ahaha

such an ill video, all of that new stuff goes so hard and those OG clips from the L1 breck shoot are genuinely some of the dopest clips i've seen this year... i don't remember having seen them before. that 9 nose tap the flag and the shot after of the sw 5 to coping shuffle are soooo hottt. huge respect to pat for going so hard and putting this out!!

top-down drone stuff makes me upset. it removes so much context of the feature, you can't see how big someone goes (though you can see how far), you can barely see the nuance in their movement. skiing is a vertical sport, you always have relief in the landscape - top-down just flattens everything and makes it hard to understand the body movement of the skier. i mean, it looks pretty, i agree, it's not ugly - it just makes it way harder to visualize the skiing in context with the spot. the drone shots where the drone was more level with the jump were better but at the same time the drone op kinda sucked at getting the landing/panning for the rideout on those.

@BK another video that did a few top-down drone shots was cruise control by gpsyfeelin. i'm not saying tradition is law, people should try new things in ski filmmaking... but when the experimental filmmaking interrupts being able to truly watch and understand someone's skiing and tricks, it's missing the point. i would argue save those shots for b-roll or filler stuff maybe?

Some insane skiing. Lots of style and great spot selection. For the most part the filming was pretty cool too. But I could not stand the random slowing down and back up, slo mo sucks already, changing the speed a bunch makes it even worse. Also what is that music?

Gavin basically touched on anything I'd have to say about it. Basically, since we are capturing 2D images I always try to find as many layers in the image as possible to create depth. Like Gavin was pointing out, when you shoot straight down you loose a lot of depth. There's a lot of ways to create that depth tho, basically just as much sky, or background as you can get, it would have been sick to see a dolly shot, using the drone, along side of the cable slide. Really the only drone shot that I thought was tough on the feature was the lip two, I had thought the long lens would have been so fire there because that ledge looks so long from the ground. However, no one should tell you how to create your stuff, so if you're hyped thats all that matters! Also the quality you've put into this video is of the highest and you should be proud. I hope you see my criticism as only constructive.

Gavin and Upstate said it all perfectly. I just wanna add that bodycam shots on urban haven't done justice to the spots where I've seen them used. Normal to see something like that on big-mountain since extra gear is common and hard to film, but I'd even say they don't do that justice either. It's usually easy to capture the feature or line from 1 or two angles in the streets, so there just isn't a general need for them. Seeing a gopro on someone hitting a spot looks pretty aesthetically out of place too, but that's more opinion I guess.

Yeah I didn't film any of the content I only did the edit. Alot of these spots I was only provided drone angles so the choice was easy haha. But yeah as someone who flys drones and shoots skiing with regular cameras, it is an interesting discussion here for sure.
