Anyone else have trouble staying chill in the park?

I have this problem, especially lately, where I’m way too intense in the park. Like if I mess up a rail, I will say “fuck” and put my hands over my head as if I just ruined my winning run in the X Games. It’s super annoying and embarrassing. I really gotta stop doing that. Then I get way too down and myself and kill the vibe. And I’m definitely the type of guy who skis 1 million times better when I’m feeling the vibe.

I cant be the only one here

sounds like a dumb tip but relax! no one is going to judge you for falling as everybody falls. just put on some music, talk to some people, and have a good time

It’s funny because I know it’s all in my head, and some days I go out there and the park and I are best buds. But the days we are not.. lord have mercy lol

Normally I’d rip some laps to get rid of it but my latest local resort is so tiny that it makes it difficult.

The problem is that some of my best park days were a couple of shots and beers deep when I was younger lol

Lapping a rope tow keeps my frustration down because I know I can retry the trick in like 20 seconds.

I only get mad when it's a trick I usually do 1st try and it takes me 5+ to get it. Also when I get snaked.

I used to be like that when I only skied park. Then I started only skiing big mountain and took that wayyyy to serious too. Then I got hurt too many times and I cant really ski super hard any more.

Now I know that skiing just about having fun and ill just surf and hit the occasional cliff/rail. Im not going pro, and none of it really matters in the end. Ski for you man. throw some happy music on and just hit whatever makes you happy. If you find yourself getting grumpy take a few groomer cruiser laps to chill out

Keep going hard. When you get old you’ll chill. I remember being 15 and just wanting to lap till close and throw everything, once I got a new truck locked, onto the next one.


Now I’m 24 and throw almost exclusively 3’s and lip on to switch rails. I don’t have any interest in trying to send anything I’m not 100% confident I won’t land. Sometimes a 5 gets tossed in the mix.


I miss that passion and eagerness. I’ve had difficult times trying to keep myself interested in skiing but it comes and goes in waves. Keep going big for now and know it’ll wear off.

If anything, I would say I ski harder now. Only thing that’s different is maybe I don’t throw as hard on jumps as I used to

yea im 27 and started getting into rails for the first time 2 seasons ago. This year is really the first year that ive been committed to making real improvements as I finally setup a backyard shindig after years of just thinking about doing it

I was absolutely fuming last night when i kept getting hung up on my front 2s out. I spent all day 2 days ago working on back 2 out and finally greased one and then the next day i come out and its like i completely forgot how to spin it the other way... frustrating

Honestly @BradFiAusNzCoCa thanks for making this thread. I feel liek it came at the perfect time for me and is helping me to realize that i need to slow down and not expect my ski game to go from 1 to 100 overnight.

We have to remind ourselves to have fun and that we are not pros lol I was getting pissy today about a weird s rail and then an unatural fr sw on a flat down.

Oh I don’t care about falling. I’ll go ass over tits, doesn’t bother me. But I think moreso with people around, I want to kinda show what I got in my bag of tricks (which is very stupid and very annoying)

Here's top hoping you find a good crew! It'll happen. I know how hard it is to approach people and make friends. You'll find a crew and I think it'll make a huge difference for you.

When I'm trying stuff, I find it helps for me to be super serious and aggressive sometimes. I'm listening to music hyping myself up, I'll give a big old bear growl when I'm dropping something new or something I haven't tried before. I definitely visualize landing the trick. I tried 3 backies last weekend and didn't land a single one. I wasn't pissed, but but I know there's progression in there. I haven't landed a backie this year yet though, and I thought I had my 3rd attempt for sure, but it's my technique.

Hell yes! When I've been trying a new trick forever and still don't get it, I get mad! Channel that anger into the next hit, if you can. If you hit it right. scream YESSSSS! The same thing happens on the golf course. They say to relax and swing the club nice and easy. So what if you swing it nice and easy and the ball goes out of bounds? You get mad and make the damned thing go straight. Anger has a purpose.

All the time. But I realized the days I learn the most are the one where I come with the mindset, “let’s just vibe today.” Suddenly I’m skiing better than ever.

i got so pissed once when i crashed that i attempted to throw my pole into the woods. unfortunately, as i threw it, the pole strap caught and instead of going into the woods my pole went 90 degrees to my left, flying uphill. at that exact moment a super cute girl that skied park at the mountain was coming down the trail and she had to put both poles up in front of her face to deflect my projectile. thankfully she was fast enough to avoid any damage and my pole clattered off into the woods anyway. needless to say, i was super embarrassed and have avoided any sort of outburst since

Just chill out sometimes, dawg. Its all good. Taking a minute to breathe before dropping in helps. There will always be another chance to ski back around and hit it again.

im a weirdo where i laugh my ass off whenever i eat shit. idk, bouncing back up with a smile on your face helps too, even while the chair full of people above you is chirpin you. Some of them probably dont have the balls to try stuff anyways.

I feel that I was trying to land a front swap front 2 on the pvc and I literally landed it twice but caught me edge on some grass both times which made me pissed but once I landed it I felt way better. I was also rushing it and I think that made me a lot more stressed about it so yeah don't rush tricks they'll come

I get this too. There are some days where I can ski and pull stuff out of my ass, and there are some days where I can't land tricks I learned when I was 14. Its a massive mindset thing for me, and I saw somewhere in here mentioning that the right crew is huge. Cant back that statement up enough. And if you don't have a crew, plug in some headphones, get a good playlist to match the mood, and just go ski around the mountain. I do this until I feel "comfortable" in my boots, (not physically) then go toss some hype music on and keep that flow going once you enter the park. More pressure you toss on yourself the shittier your skiing will get over the day.

Dude this reminds me of my golf game. I’m not as good as skiing park so I can’t get mad when I can’t do shit. But no one wants that guy in the group who is taking it too seriously and then not making it fun for the other guys. Just try to chill out honestly. You’re probably slaying it and everyone thinks you’re sick. Just get that rail next time you know. Enjoy the time with your boys and be thankful you’re out there. Some people aren’t so fortunate

It can be good sometimes though. Lets say youre trying a really tech trick or a big challenge rail. You come so fucking clise and come off early before the donkey, or under rotate the front 2 at the end. You get pissed and you hike back up. You channel that energy, and you frigging do that thing and stomp it.

Idk it's just skiing so don't go crazy but it's okay to be passionate and get pissed when you cant get that trick right.

Just don't be the guy that's bitching a bunch and ruining everyone's vibe in your group. I've yelled at rails before. I feel bad because honestly it wasnt their fault, but in the moment i couldn't help it.

Today was the first day in a year I'd been on the sticks. Mellowist run under a chair and I fell 3 times failing to bend the ski and separating my upper and lower body. Mega embarrassing wow. Then th rest of the day I was ripping. You'll kill it next sesh man!
