Top 3 ski edits of all time... Are they just One of Those Days 1,2,3?

I would say that one of those days 3 and 2 easily take spots 1 and 2 respectively but do you think the original was good enough to make it the third best edit of all time and have all three edits in a series out do every other edit of all time?

What about classics such as Tom's refresh segment, Jon's refresh segment, clown school's "fuck", the original jiberish edit, b&e muddy winter, etc? Do one of these edits or another stand up against the first one of those days? Thoughts?

Agreed, Popularity doesn't determine its greatness. the original one of those days was awesome, but there are many many edits and films that trump the one of those days trilogy by a longshot

As a collection I think that they can be up there, but there are so many legendary edits that I would put higher individually.

Why not? Name something better. His stuff shows off an aspect of skiing that seemingly no one else is doing and pushes the limits of what we can consider possible. Not even the most imaginative skiers can think of such ideas much less do such things on such a BIG BIG scale.

No one else can make a go pro pov edit really good. No one else can go as big. No one else can hit the such interesting,original, and creative hits. And doing so 3 times each time upping the last? Mind blowing.

I know it's hard to say such a big statement so soon after the edit being released. It takes time to achieve such greatness and legend status. But don't be soo DAMN quick to discredit my point without any supported argument or evidence. At least give me other alternative candidates for the best edits of all time without any reasoning.

This is a discussion so discuss your point. Don't just say no, you're wrong like you're somehow better than me because you know more about edits and content from older days that I may know about. Tell me why I'm wrong please.

What do you mean by that? Like I get there is more to an edit but what do you feel is lacking in the edits that is fundamental to an edit.

haha i didnt say any of that-

it was insinuated that my response was prefaced with 'in my opinion' since this is an opinion-based question.

but anyways, yeah, one of those days 3 was cool, it was entertaining, and some of the hits were pretty big. but i felt like i was watching a camera on vin diesel's head in a XXX movie. the production value was almost too high to actually be considered a 'ski edit'. a ton of the shit was not even real and it was cut with the intent of garnering a gaper 'wow' factor. prior to backflipping that grass jump there's very clearly no snow for 300+ yards. he lands on snow and takes that into the pond skim. he walks off the gondola deck and when his skis drop out of the frame, he's already moving. that killed it for me. edits to me are like songs, there are too many in existence to name a top 1 or top 3.

that was a fun watch, but the first one (and even the second) was way more impressive than the third.

but like you said, it was an opinion question. there's mine

Look at the best edits of all time, slumdog illionair, I feel ghood, etc,etc. Everything came together, music, filmers were on point and there was a certain swag to the whole thing that made them popular. Slumdog and I feel ghood don't have the best skiing, you can watch any other edit and see the same shit. But they just came together so perfectly and get me stoked to ski every time I watch them.

I feel Candides OOTD series lacks that, however with that being said I would watch OOTD over any style edit any day of the week because the sheer skill presented in the series is so fucked up.

Yea I noticed some of that but I don't think it took away too much from the edit-at least for me. I get the gaper wow factor thing but I look at those transitions as something cool and different. Idk. I'm still processing what I saw.

I remember watching that when it was first released as "what Jesus would look like if he freestyle skied." It got taken down soon after because the footage was part of Superunknown so lots of people didn't get to see it when it first came out. In my 12+ years on this site I have never anything create more hype than this video. Everyone just looked at skiing differently after it. Shit was wild.

Top edit of all time for me.

Agreed. OOTD1 was by far the best of the three, hands down.

For me a good edit has to make me want to go out skiing. OTTD are cool and super creative but its just a showcase of Candide doing crazy shit. The stuff hes doing is unobtainable to the average skier, and its gotten fairly commercial, i cant go out and huck myself over a spinning heli, and the build teams to put together those edits would be massive, so it doesn't really make me want to go out and ski. I just kind of sit back and go wow, hes good, that was cool, nice one. Not the best edits of all time though. Perhaps some of the most influential in terms of getting people to think outside the box of what they can do on snow.

Don't get me wrong, Candide does some shit that is incomprehensible, but the editing has got to the point where I find myself wondering what is real and what isn't. You should never have to do that in an edit.

Think one of my favorite short edits is level 1 x saga just because of the feels. There's simply so many edits that you can't really put one above another.

you obviously haven't been around here that long to think OOTD123 are the best edits of all time. I would rank OOTD 1 up there, Kandid camera blew my mind still does. I think its way better than 2 and 3. Countless other edits that I think are better...Candid's just has some pretty good camera work which makes the simpletons happy

Again...im not saying they were anywhere remotely bad they were all awesome. I think 1 and 2 could be considered best of all time. Definitely not 3.

Did you watch Leo Taillefer's Gopro Line of the Winter submission, or some of Sanders POV stuff, I'm not arguing that those are better, just pointing out that there are other big name skiers out there making awesome POV edits. Leo went pretty damn big and imaginative in his.

One of Those Days 1 is near the top, the rest are great but have had to become more commercialized as the public eye started to take notice, and they focused on less raw skiing.

I think the main point of his argument is as follows:

OOTD 1-3 have absolutely amazing skiing in them, nobody is doubting that. But they're mass population edits, as in they try to reach AS MANY FUCKING PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE, where the "core" skiing community, or NS community (either way) regards a great edit as something that has great skiing, beautiful filming, good music selection, transitions that don't take away from the skiing, and aren't totally overdone.
