Otsego Park (O Park) O-verrated

So we decided to make the trip to the Otsego Ski Club today since we have heard so many good things about the park and we wanted to get some last minute footage for a competition. To make sure our drive would be worth it we made the call the ski lodge last night and were told the jumps were nice, the pipe "was the best this side of the mississippi", and that we would not be disappointed. With that in check we we off early this morning with high hopes of getting all the banger shots we dreamed of that we could not get locally. When we arrived to the park we found that it did not open to the public till 12. As we waited for the park to open we talked to the staff and found out that the pipe was only open to the Olympic snowboarders who were training, and the quarter pipe that jumped into an air bag was also not open to the public. After we talked to a staff member about how the jumps were (that we could not see), we headed out to the park. As we ride up the lift the jumps that were supposed to be (from what we heard) a good 20ft, 30ft, and 40ft in a line, turned out to be a 4ft, 4ft, 5ft jump. Needless to say we were more than disappointed after being told we would not be. After that we asked for our money back which we were giving back no questions asked. Now the purpose of this thread isn't to bash their park, its to inform anyone who is mislead by others on how "amazing" they think it could be. The half-pipe is really awesome, and if that's what your looking for than I HIGHLY suggest going there, but if your looking for jumps and great rails I would suggest looking elsewhere. Hope this helps anyone who was thinking of going there decide if they should go or not and save some people the time that we wasted (over 7 hours).

See this pisses me off because I've been there a total of three times and every time theres been something new, the pipe has been open (trust me there's gapers running through it)there is a LEGIT rail line, and the jump line, while not the biggest (big jump line isn't up yet) is clearly not 4- 4 - 5
Check my latest edit I was there last friday

Whatever though, keep believing the Opark is shit and it will stay empty.
and by the way the staff is awesome

Haha good first post! I am actually going up to Michigan this weekend and was contemplating whether or not I should try to stop by Ostego. Thanks for the heads up!

im going for free though.... and i can buy 25 junior bacon cheese burgers with that and it sounds like the burgers will be a better choice then buying a ticket to ostego

I never said the staff wasn't friendly, they did give us our money back. I cant talk for the rest of the year but the jump was literally a foot high and about 4-5ft in length...For the rail line, it had potential but was unattended to today and all the landings were pure ice and the rails were sticky. Not trying to hate, just trying to inform after we wasted 7 hours of travel. Just dont want that to happen to anyone else. All's fair, the pipe looked sick...

the big jumps they were talking about aren't in the rail line, you have to go down the first hill straight to the back lift. the big ones are on that hill.

I went up to the o park with this kid and it was seriously a HORRIBLE park.. i took 3 runs and was over it. The landing were ice and there wasnt a good rail line.. they mixed up the rails to much by putting a good rail with two bad rails in one line.. and the jumps were literally 5 ft with a ft tall lip. I asked the park guy about any other jumps and he said NO these are the only ones.. dont get me wrong the pipe was soo ill but not open to public and if u want to ride pipe deff go there. and i can name atleast 3 different parks that are way ILLER than the "o park" not tryin to bash at all just informing people

dude i do hope you saw the chair 3 park...did you? because yeah now that i think about it theres a 4 foot jump on chair 1...

what about chair 5 BX course?
I find it so hard to believe it was such an upset. It's so much sicker than my home hill.

maybe next time ride more than 1 or 2 chairs... Otsego does have 5 of them

have fun up there... 14 national olympic teams to date have viewed and rode the property and think its the best training facility built to date.... and the Planet crew and those Olympians know a bit about building and riding world class venues...

yes it is O-verrated and I live in Gaylord MI. Yes the pipe is great but besides that it is really more of a rail jam park with so mid size jumps. I think it is overrated because the superpipe just but the small town of Gaylord on the map. The place is also a private resort, so that does not make it fit to the rest of the world would would like to rip. But the bottom line is that it is the best park for best price in Michigan. Now in Michigan we have no big mountains to shred but just hills and the O-park is one of the best ones in Michigan.

My local resort has a 10 times better park than O-park.. we have way better jumps and rails

Wha?  Bittersweet?  Wow - I haven't been there in a long time, and the memories aren't great.  Interesting...    I wonder what other Michigan resorts have respectable terrain parks that may be overlooked...

Surprisingly, Bittersweet just may have the best park in the LP. they have about 12-14 rails set up, a 20ft 15ft step over, 35ft and a staggered 20 and about 45ft jump set up and might be making that a 50-60ft step over in the near futrue depending on snow amounts. But I timber ridge and even cannonsburg also have underrated parks on the west side. we have footy from b-sweet but cant post it due to its for a competition. we'll try and post a bittersweet edit soon.

not sure when you were there, but the jump line on chair #3 has doubled in size. kids throwin down. the tabels all have 2 take offs w/ big line being about 35ft and loooooong steep landings that can easily be sent to 50ft without going too far. jumps arent super long, but have lots of wutang! lots of fun! the rails are all brand new. more rails getting set up this week @ end of jump lne on chair #3 and is tottally gonna be a banger slopestyle run. park is maintained daily and almost never ice after rails unless it rained the day before. we keep our park VERY well maintained... DAILY.  just to let everybody else know it IS WORTH THE DRIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! see you out there. have you seen the webcam???? if thats not a fun rail line, you should stay down state and hit your beat up rusty boxs!

HAHA, first off KDay is currently skiing in Colorado and he knows a good park when he sees one. Second I believe we all wanna see pictures to believe that these 35foot jumps are as big as you guys say they are, becuz everytime someone says a jump is that big, it turns out to be only half that size. Best park in the LP? doubtful...lets see some vids or pictures and then we can debate

whats good sorry to bump a hella old thread but its 2011 and the o-park is goin off. the entire park is open to the public on thursdays and fridays (dont know what all the talk about not being able to ride the jumps?). the jumps are the best in the LP with out a doubt, big gaps and the lips are super poppy.

yo man, ill eat my words with what ive seen from the O park this year...dont know about best in LP since i havnt been there yet but its good for sure...it was super weak when we went their tho about this time last year....
