The setup was first just turf and carpet. Only worked when it was super wet with shit loads of soap. We then went with construction fence. The stuff I had didn't work great because the plastic straps that made up the plaid pattern were too thin. Thicker is way better as far as construction fence goes. We put it down on top of the turf. If too much of the turf was able to get to our bases through the fence it got wicked slow.
The object was to get something that we could run dry. We found that plastic construction fences have a smooth side and a rough side. The difference in speed is huge. Definitely put the smooth side up.
Edging on construction fence scrubs a lot of speed too. Our tranny wasn't completely level at first so we were slowing down a ton right before our kicker. Also our rail wasn't completely lined up with the dropin, so we were having to make a slight turn at the bottom of the dropin to line up with the rail. Unless you are hauling ass, turning on the flat on construction fence will kill all of your speed.
For anyone having speed issues, I would recommend:
Break out a level and make sure that you can ride a flat ski all the way to your kicker. We took a snowboard and let it slide down to the jump. Once we got it to go straight, we knew we had it right.
Make sure that your transistion from down to flat to up is smooth. Also make sure that your rail is lined up with your drop in. Just being 3 inches off will make you have to edge in the flats to adjust and you will lose all your speed.
Use construction fence and make sure that you find stuff that has thicker plastic straps for the pattern and has a smooth side. Make sure the smooth side is up.
This was our first seshion on the setup except for a few test runs. Just breaking it in, but we got the speed right now.
