helmets dont stop all head injuries. no matter what your wearing if you hit your head hard enough your gonna cause some serious damage. i dont believe he was wearing a helmet, not positive though.

I believe CR was wearing a helmet, but the point of impact was below his helmet.

I've had two concussions while wearing a helmet, but probably would've had a lot more without it.

Helmets are not designed to stop or prevent head injuries, they are designed to lessen the impact of a blow to the head (which can reduce the severity of an injury).

to be honest man this thread is so disrespectful think about it man bringing up CR's terrible accident with Ky shouldn't happen. I had the privileged of meeting CR this season and I have to say he is a great guy who had a potentially life threatening accident happen to him and its a true test of courage for him to be able to ride at the level he is again. I don't really think its necessary to bring up tragic accidents of the past

If anything, we should look at that accident and learn lessons from it. Disregarding the past and the lessons is provides is a sure fire way to continue making the same mistakes over and over in the future.

i have knocked myself unconscious wearing a helmet, they only help prevent injury not completely avoid it... but i will always wear one because they do help a ton compared to not wearing one at all

Thread creator are you stupid or just oblivious? Helmets don't prevent people from concussions. They lessen the impact. The worst concussion of my life happened while wearing a helmet.

damn, do you think its more dangerous to wear a helmet when another guy dropping a cliff just behind you than not wearing one???

honestly, if someone ever comes up again, that SKILLS, a BEANIE or even NOT WEARING A HELMET is safer than wearing a helmet, i will call bear cavalry

Helmets don't stop large impact completely but they deffinately help a ton when you hit your head on a metal rail or cement stairs.  I sure as hell don't want to catch on a handrail support and smack my head on the stairset.....yep helmets for the win.

Well CR didn't really get a concussion, as much as he SUFFERED TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY THAT LEFT HIM PARALYZED AND ALMOST DEAD!

 CR was hit in the back of the head just under HIS HELMET, so yeah, accidents do happen even when your wearing a helmet!

A concussion is caused by your brain bouncing of the skull on the opposite side of impact, so concussion do occur when wearing a helmet, but like many others said, it is less severe with a helmet.

Lastly i'd like to say that it's a moronic question, and i do find it strange to link a question like this to CR's accident.

On a side note:

This season my friend fractured his skull in multiples places and got an incision in his cerebral artery while snowboarding WITH a helmet on..without it he would have been dead. Helmets definately do help just not really with concussions.
