Rossignol s3 for 09/10

I want to buy a pair of these  but i heard they were gonna retail for below 400!! he said 425 shipped and i was wonderin if that is a good deal or not. let me know any info you got about these skis and there price. ++k

That would be a legit price.

From what I can tell it is supposed to be a smaller/budget version of the S7 or an Alpha 1 like park ski but wider.  It the dimensions are 128-98-118.  It has rossignol's Sigma technology kind of like armada's elf shoe technology, where underfoot it is like a normal ski with normal sidecut and normal camber and then towards the tip and tail it is rockered and has reverse camber, so its like a ski within a ski.  Got the normal ski underfoot for groomers and the pow ski at the tip and tail for pow.  Should be versatile like its brother the S7 and the Armada JJ, but a bit friendlier to eastcoasters, or places that get maybe 350 or less inches a year versus the places that get upwards of 450 inches. It also probably behaves in the park like the Alpha 1 but wider, so a bigger landing platform, but reduced swing weight and not hooking or catching when taking off switch off the jumps or carving into a cork spin.  Pretty sure it has sidewall construction with mini cap to protect the top sheet, rebound tips and tails, rocking chair effect and a full wood core.

Also, it is symmetrical throughout it's contact points on this snow, so it is a symmetrical park ski, where the rocker leaves the snow, the dimensions vary, so you have a park ski, and a soft snow, pow ski. Pretty sick if you ask me.

wow u guys are awesome. so would it be a good or bad ski for colorado as far as an all mountainer since i already have park skis. i was gonna use it mostly in powder.

the rocker in the tip is perfect for an all-round ski because its not over done like some skis but it still has more than an obsethed. Also, you necessarily don't have to go too flat because the amount of rocker in the tip. So basically its a killer ski and you should definitely buy it fast because they are going to be more than 425.

I don't know the US $RRP, and Australian prices would be different to the USA, even after taking exchange rates into account

A guess would be $50 more than this years to account for lost sales this year due to financial bullshit, plus extra R&D incurred with the launch of the new S3

One of the worst skis that I have ever been on. They were very heavy and rather cumbersome. They were not as playful as you would expect. They faired pretty well on groomers, but as far as a jumping ski, they did not seem to have a lot of pop to them. If it is true that they are going to be priced around $400, good for Rossi, but I'd rather spend my money on a different ski.

Maybe because I'm heavier I thought the ski was fun. It's pretty stiff. They're really fun and predictable to butter on but I found they were a big hooky when I got lazy and washed turns too much. The early rise is barely noticeable on groomed but I noticed the high tips and early rise in the pow and chopped snow. I didn't need to lean back as much as usual for a ski of its dimensions.

They were really quite similar to the Alpha 1 but a bit wider and more versatile.

Hey sorry to bump such an old thread, but retail is going to be above 600 for these skis. I looked it up at work yesterday, I can remember exactly but it was in the 600's.

really?? i demoed them in New Zealand on a pow day and they were fantastic. i thought that they were totally playful and were great for butters. i went from not even doing butter 3s to doing butter 5s in one day. i just dont know how they will handle the east coast. i really want to buy a pair but im not sure because the east coast has really variable conditions and ice a lot of the time.

I skied them on east coast hardpack/ice and they turned on a DIME. Loved them. Did the perfect kind of skid turns that I love to use next to the tree line and just playing around.

ski seems very light and has an interesting shape.

the skis shape is deffinatley designed to be geared towards the east coast, fat ski market. i will be pushing this as a park ski option as well as a 1 ski quiver for someone who likes to travel around (i work in a ski shop in central ontario)...as i like the idea that the ski has alot of rocker early and quickly turns into a normal cambered ski with a 'normal' sidecut.

it has slight reverse sidecut in the shovel and tail to allow less hooking and superior float in softer snow.

however, because it has alot of rocker early, and quickly tapers off, the regular camber and sidecut underfoot should be more than enough to handle a little ice.

a soft shovel and medium underfoot and tail flex add to the stability. i personally wish they made the shovel stiffer (hand flex) to allow for better switch riding. (all speculation from looking and mollesting the ski over the past few days)

this shape is superior to a ski such as a K2 rocker design(which i like more) that has less rocker over a larger area. (or so it seems as i havnt actually compared numbers against numbers)...in the effect that is allows for better handling in ice/corn snow, do to regular camber underfoot.

hope this helps anyone with any problems/concerns.

Yea, this ski was tricky to find out info about though, just because its a new ski. but im sure there will be some other S3 thread sooner or later.

I saw them in person today and they looked real sick.  The difference between underfoot and the tail is very small when compared to the tip.  It had a nice medium flex.  The graphics are sweet.  If I had one ski, that would be it.  I bet they would be a great east coast ski or great for someone looking for one ski that can handle the pow and park and still have a ton of fun on it.  I didn't get a look at the price tag though.
