If NS is CRAP...what can we do to fix it?

Lately we have been seeing a ton of threads popping up complaining that the forums have gone to hell, and most of us agree. The question is how do we make you guys happy. We walk a fine line in the moderation world with our decisions of what is funny -> dumb -> annoying -> utter crap. Where do we draw the lines and what would you like to see deleted/left alone.

This site is here for you guys and girls so we are always open to suggestions, just please give us something to work with. Remember you can always message any of the Green or Red names and let us know if there's something you see we may have missed, we can't be everywhere.

So fire away with suggestions and comments here (without the need for a dozen threads) and we'll see what we can do.

I am a glass is half full kinda guy, but I think NS is the farthest thing from "crap".  For the most part, I think the Mods do an awesome job, and it's got to be tough to deal with.  Say the word and I'll step up to help.

There have been a bunch of suggestions on how to deal with the people who create multiple aliases.  One of the mods told me that he was able to identify people with mulitple aliases.  My suggestion is that mods should be able to do one of the following:

1) On the person's main profile, all of the aliases they have created should be listed like they are for name changes.

2) People who do this should have their name changed to a different color to identify them as a multiple alias creator.

The reason people do aliases is because they are concerned that their post will screw up their Karma or they will get crapped on if people think it's stupid.  The alias gives them anonimity.  Take that away, and I think the problem will largely go away.

I honestly don't have any "problems" with NS or what you guys are doing to provide us with content and moderation of the forums.

There are however two things I want to bring up

1) It would be really awesome to have a cult search bar if possible. It's rough having to backtrack multiple pages to find something (especially in big cults like ladies men or crochet).

2) Not directed at mods as much as members:    Just because somebody brings up something that has been previously discussed doesn't mean 20 people have to flame them and "searchbar" them. It gets real old real fast, and is pretty meaningless. If its clearly a repost then shame on the creator.

Only one thing pisses me off.
When im scanning threads and going through new ones, one at a time, im always pressing either back button, or back to threads button. the page then goes back to the right page, but its at the top of the page too. Its kind of annoying when im at a random part of the page and it goes back to the top, then making me find where i was on the page again. Why not just make it go back to its original place, when pressing back. Most websites do, just not this one.

Its a small thing, but it pisses me off a bunch. And i dont know if you will get what i wrote.

I agree, but unfortunately hitting the back button is a result of the browser you're using. What you describe above should happen in your browser if the threads page is fully loaded and you click the back button. If a web page isn't fully loaded, you click to go forward, load that page, then click back, the browser will attempt to finish loading the missing data that wasn't loaded before it jumps you to the spot you were at before you clicked forward. That's a long sentence, but does it make sense?

When you click the back to threads link, you're making a new web request and moving forward in your workflow. Notice when you click the back button to go back to the threads, the forward button is enabled. When you click back to threads, the forward button isn't enabled.

Does what I explained make sense?

Start using tabs and opening threads on new tabs. It will make your life easier.

MODS DELETING PERSONAL DISPUTE THREADS
i just dont think it should be done, sure ill never buy boon skis again
but im planing to still get some jiberish i just think they should be left

then the thread explaining why they got deleted got deleted im waiting for a thread explaining why the thread explaining why they got deleted to be made and get deleted

So if i get this, other forums go back to the right place because i did not fully load the page before? I guess that means that newschoolers is faster then other websites, which is a good think i suppose. And yeah, i started doing the tab thing, middle clicking is really easy.

That's right. NS might be faster, but those forums may also have their links call javascript:go(-1);, which mimics the back button click instead of making a new web call.

The AD's have become too much, when NS members were asked about advertising, we agreed to advertising that was relevant to us, and not overbearing. 

Looking at these fat chicks in thongs and pop-ups now are getting rediculous, my blocker can't get them all and I cannot even browse the forums without the top ad blowing itself up to full screen + pop ups.  This is rediculous, accepting donations while this continues. 

I am forced to only browse TGR at work and school, due to the ads conflicting with the work filters, which sucks, TAKE THEM OFF ALREADY.

MEMBERS NEED TO PETITION AND GET THE MODS TO REMOVE THESE ADS that have nothing to do with skiing, or sports whatsoever.  NS SOLD OUT. PERIOD

in buy sell trade forms there should be a section for skiing related items and non skiing related items and one for skis one for outerwear ETC and keep the callouts to the good seller bad seller leat or make it its own fourm

make it so tha thread creator can delete tha thread!!!!!
That way when everyone says "SEARCHBAR NEWBBBB!!!!!!" they will get shamed into deleting it.

I have nothing to say in the formatting of NS, I think it's perfect and couldn't be any better.

I think people here don't realize the luxuries that we are able to get for free on NS, such as almost endless messeging/inbox, and more that I don't have the time to point out, but basically I think we get it pretty good.

The one thing though, is the amount of trolls and useless stuff in NSG, it's kind of annoying, but as I read earlier on in this thread, I'll definetly start PMing some admins about useless threads!

Not much to say here! NS rules!

Someone created a rant on SG about the new PBP teaser for Everyday is Saturday.  It was deleted.  I created a thread in Site Discussion asking for an explanation.  My thread was deleted too.  No explanation!.  That's bull shit!  I didn't agree with the guy who created the original thread, but I felt that deleting it was not the right way to go.  Most of the time negative publicity like that has a positive impact on sales.  This thread wasn't hurting anyone and deleting it makes NS look bad.  Deleting my thread, which was only meant to bring it to the attention of other mods, makes NS look fascist. 

If you have read any of my other posts, you'll know that I don't get insulted easy, but this really pissed me off.  I love NS; I've contributed; I had every intention of contributuing more and promoting NS through my business.   If this represents the way Mods are going to start doing things, I'll be following in the footsteps of Creedman672.

I PM'd Doug Bishop about this.  If I get banned; so be it.  I really think that if NS continues to censor threads like this, it will quickly turn into "crap".

CD - He meant the kid who created the original thread.  Anyway, when you've got Jeff Thomas from PBP making positive replies in the thread, chances are people are getting it.  Huge props for whoever made the executive decision to un-delete the thread.  My faith in NS is restored.  The kid that created the thread was up at daHood staying in a condo with 16 other guys, having a great time slaying it during the day and laughing their asses off at the responses to their thread.  To me that is NS at it's finest.

can we PLEASE start getting the site backgrounds back in the Media Downloads section again? the last one in there is of Sage, and that was quite a while ago. unless somebody can give me direct link to the background, the link i used to use doesn't work anymore.

I think people like to dog on each other to much.  They are to quick to make fun of or cuss at others and make fun of them.  Its pretty sad.  Just cause one kid has a different feeling than another does not mean they should make fun of them.

you should be able to edit or delete the threads you make so if its a repost you can just delete it and not have to be hit with the repost or searchbar stuff

maybe having keyword search entries when making a thread to make it easier to find out if you're reposting or not.
you can't really find a thread if it had an irrelevant name to a video or etc if it has an eye grabber for a title...

This may have been said, but, currently in mythreads when you click on a thread and its been deleted by a mod or admin, it just re directs you to a page showing the forums. Can we have a message, when a thread in mythreads has been deleted by a mod, have a message saying "This thread has been deleted, now re directing you BACK to mythreads" Thats a little pet peeve of mine, not super important but getting it sorted would be good.

For B/S/T, could you make three sub forums? That couldn't be to complicated (sorry if i'm wrong), and it would separate all of the buying/selling/trading people, making it easier to look at sales and such.

i agree that the best thing to keep the site clean is members stepping up and helping to regulate it themselves, not by criticizing obviously bad threads and posting in them but PMing mods and explaining your problem with people or threads. 

I liked the idea of a 1-10 thread karma system, it could get abused just because people love to hate but it has potential.  if you could organize the threads by the most well liked (similar to videos) perhaps some of the classics or more entertaining ones would appear on top.
