I recently bought the DV3000u. What a great piece of equipment. The entire experience with the camera has been a total pleasure. .
Now for the Review!!:
Pro's:
Great Lens, Crystal clear playback, Color, SOUND, the many functions, Hookups (Jackbox), ergonomics.
Explaination: This puppy has the brightest lens in the market. F 1.2 That is BRIGHT. The closest thing I could find was a model costing $5000. Next, the playback. I have a 36" TV. When I played back my videos on that TV, it was as if I was watching a DVD. So clear and clean. The colors really burst on the screen. This was the one area I was most concerned about. I read many reviews on many camera's. The most common thing among all of them was the color reproduction. I am trully amazed at the color and clarity on this thing. The next item is sound. I was kind of shocked how clear it was. I am used to the muffled sound that you get with the analog tapes. When they say CD quality sound. They mean it. I videotaped the birth (not all the oogy stuff) of our daughter. I compared it to the birth of my 1st daughter (on analog tape). The only way i could compare it would be...Records to CD's. Its that big of a difference. I was filming outdoors and saw a swarm of gnats. I followed one around and...I think I actually heard it break wind!! (rim shot). One of the functions of the camera is the ability to add sound effects to what you are taping. One thing they dont tell you is that you can make your own (with an mp3 maker) or download more off of their website. The multimedia card that came with the camera comes preloaded with 12 sounds. The list of features is so extensive that it would be hard to get into here. Lets just say you can be very creative. You have a choice of many different auto exposures and special video effects. Its really fun (AND EASY) to get into some of those special effects. Hooking it up to the computer is a breeze with all of the connections this thing gives you. You hook up the included "Jack Box" and you have a USB port, A/V in, External Power, S-video. You also have a Firewire port located on the machine. Its great. It also is very comfortable in the hand. You record video with the thumb and take still pictures with the index finger. The stills are 1.3MP. Not bad at all for a video camera. You can take stills in the middle of videoing. Its very convenient.
Con's: Hookups (Jackbox), Tape loading.
The Con's Explained:
The Cons are few. The Jackbox(yes the same one listed above in the Pro's) is a little inconvenient. You must remove the battery in order to use the jackbox. If you do that you will need to get out the charger/Adapter and use it to supply power to the unit. This is also true when using Firewire. The firewire port is conveniently located on the side of the camera (not on the jackbox). However the DC power into the camera is located on the jackbox, meaning, if you dont want to run down the battery, you must hook up the DC power which means you must hook up jackbox. The only other thing so far that I have noticed is the location for tape loading. Its on the bottom. When you hook this up to a tripod, you cant load/unload tape. Its not major, just an annoyance.
The bottom line:
If you are looking for a professional grade camera for just a little more money than a consumer model. Buy this one. You will NOT BE SORRY.

Great product. It has many advanced yet easy to use features that I have yet to begin to utilize. I really enjoy the manual focus. The image, when played back on a television is crystal clear, but you do need good light for good color reproduction, but that is the case with any consumer level camcorder. The auto focus could be better, but I plan to utilize the manual focus more often anyway. Everything works great, and I am very glad that I purchased it.

This is a great camera. Rather than repeating the other reviews, I will add a few things.
I like that the special effects are not actually stored on the tape, but rather a 'pointer' is stored in the memory card, so effects can be removed/added later.
The biggest con for me on this camera is the lack of a microphone jack. JVC has a $100 or so zoom mic avail for the hot-shoe on top, but I would like to see a hot-shoe 'Jack box' which lets you plug in a mic, etc.

I've had the camera for a while now and have been very pleased with it's capabilities. I videotape theatrical performances for a drama school and the results have been fantastic. The manual mode allows great exposure control over the varying lighting conditions during the performances. The video quality even under low lighting conditions is fantastic. The colors are bright, the F1.2 lense gives great depth of field. The .7 wide mode zoom makes wide shots easy. The digital camera makes frame grabs easy and the picture quality is fine for normal 4 x 6 prints. The only negatives I have is the lack of a microphone input and the location of the DV port which requires the LCD screen to be open when connected to a computer. This is a great camera.

I've had mine for a few weeks now. Like everything about this camcorder except for the small on/off selector switch. Hard to use with my fat fingers!
I did have to return the first camera because of a defect. Vanns staff was A1, the return and replacement went smoothly without a single problem.

After hours of research both in cyber and land I found my camera here. The information was super and when I saw the price I knew I found an excellent item. Upon receiving this I began to play and found there is so much more it can do. I got my moneys worth and then some.

Ease of Use: The record/play switch seems just a bit small for my fingers to manipulate easily bu that is the only con I have found.
Value: Great camera for the money. The only other make I considered was Sony and I found them to be priced just as high or higher with similar features but nit the great look.
Performance: I thought I needed a light but I haven't needed to tape in complete darkness yet so I don't miss it.
Overall: This is my third JVC camcorder over the years. I keep researching and keep coming back to this brand.
