Check out Jon's latest videoblog. Apparently he has a 50k bet that he can make the 2014 Olympic team in GS.

I hope you all know he was a (pro?) racer before he started freestyle..... so it's likely he could make the team

it seems you are the one doing the underestimating amigo. jon was on the swedish race team before becoming a freeskier and also won the swedish big mtn champs in 04 after just entering it randomly, beating the likes of kaj zackrisson, jon larsson and sverre lillequst. do i need to spell it out- he's pretty shit hot at every aspect of the sport k?

Yea I was going say. He was one of the top Europa Cup skiers before he became a pro freestyler.

Yeah but still, he probably hasn't touched a GS ski in a while, and his skiing was adjust fo powder and park, which is different than racing. I'm not saying it's impossible, but he will have to work hard to make it.
Do you think he would just make the olympics and then jump back into the park? Or would he really let go his actual life (which is going really well) for a bet? only time will tell I guess...

2014 is 6 full years from now.
think about it, he can still ski park and pipe for a couple years and then train hardcore for racing plus he can do some cross training in between.
take that plus his natural ability on skis and the back up he can get with personnal trainers and stuff.
chances are he could make it. it's not like skiers that left racing just cant make a comeback.

ok people, lets think about this seriously. jon is now 24-25. 2014 is 7 years from now, by which time he'll be 31. 31 is prime age for racing, but far too old to be competing in freestyle. watch jon's vid on his videoblog, ya he owned that gs course first try. ok, so what is this likely to mean?
1) In a few years time, jon will be done competing freestyle so will focus more on training gs and will film park/backcountry in his spare time.
2) Jon easily has the technique and work ethic to make it back on the gs team- he just needs to build muscle strength. if he's serious, which it seems he is, he'll have no worries getting back on the team.
Anyway, whatever, I think its sick. Racing doesn't get enough credit on here and it is epic that one of the worlds best ever freeskiers is sick at racing too- herman maier in the pipe anyone?!

if the bet is just to get in the 2014 olympics then by then there should be superpipe and he could easily make that but he probly could make GS too

As a GS racer myself I think that would sick, but he wouldn't get bored. The race actually goes by really fast, when you're goin 60 mph through the course, leaves lil time to do anything. That would be sweet though if he made it and at the end of his race he went switch just to get a reaction.

I think it would be cool if he made it, then qualified for finals, then in the finals show up in his park gear and ski the course switch, while throwing spins over the knolls.

true but he would have to crack the swiss team to make it which pretty much means he would have to be under 10 fis points an all his years of not racing would count as penalties towards his fis points he had before. and 2014 is a long way away so age will be a factor... not saying he cant to it but its gonna be very hard to do. not sure if the rules have changed but to race in the olympics you need to have atleast raced world cup for a year,so he would be aiming to make the wc by 2013.
but on the plus side the swiis team hasnt been all that competitive for the last few years...

What has the Swiss team to do with anything?
SWEDEN and SWITZERLAND are completely different countries. Get your geography act together.
Btw, 1USD = 6.30 Swedish Kronor

Yeah, all he has to do is make the team. Then in the Olympics he can ski it switch or something...his teammates might kill him though if its a collective team score.

yeah jon, that would be so sick if he got into the olympics for like gs and then pipe to. that would be sweet.
