Spraypainting your skis

its there any kind of spray paint you need to use. i have rossi scratch sprayers and want to make a sick design.
thanks

any anybody who has tryied this before post ur pictures

I think any kind of spray paint should work... just make sure its the color you want. you have to make sure to paint it with clearcoat after though so the design stays on. there was an article on something likethat in 'Snowboard: products places and personalities" in their first or second issue I think.

its not an issue of how many layers you use, but the kinda spray you're using, remember its cold as fuck on the mtn's. paints gonna chip / crack everywhere really fast because of the temp and just from natural flex of the ski unless you pick the right paint.

These guys are right to a point, you need to prep and use paint that can withstand unusual temperature changes and flexing. You also need clear coat to protect, the kind they use for cars works well, take you skis down to an auto body shop and ask them to use their leftover after doing a car to give your skis a few coats in exchange for a 12 pack or something.
     The problem is, even if you do everything right, the paint will still chip off. Normal ski graphics go under layers of plastic, so scratches resulting from your skis banging together that would normally not damage a graphic will ruin painted graphics, even with all the clear coat in the world. The upside is of course, since you did it yourself, when it chips and cracks too much you can always paint something new.

i have the same skis as you (assuming urs are the old bcs with the flat black and little white signs) i just painted the with to flat black, i didnt use any prep or clear coat. it worked good, i just spray over it like every 6 ski days and its fine

use a fine sandpaper to make the top sheet sort of abrasive so that the paint holds easier.  then use an outdoor spray paint with clear coat if you want.  take your time.  its all about layers.  and let the paint dry thoroughly between layer sessions.

I painted a stencil on my snowboard and it held up, whole different case for you though. I would suggest krylon fusion. Paint made for plasticy type surfaces..... i guess.

i would suggest using montana paint, cause it is made for graffiti and it is really high quality. it will also stick to any surface. they have lots of colors too.

I would think that paint meant for rc car bodies would be best.  It by nature holds up to ridiculous flexing, and there are a million colors.

after you paint them, coat them with about 5 coats of non-gloss poly-urethane

sorry to ressurect this, but how would i paint 05/06 PEs? they have that shit ptex top sheet.. just go over it?
