Rabies?

ok so i was out in the woods and some ass ran over a raccoon and it was limping all over the road. so i got out, put my shirt over its head, and tried to slit its throat... it tried to bite me a couple times but i got a way...well my knife sucked and all it did was let out a blood-curdling scream that sent mad chills down my whole body. so i started to try and break its neck by stomping its head...all that did was crush its skull, pop out its eyes, and make it scream more. so i ran to my car, got out a better knife, and stuck it right in its neck and ripped as hard as i could to put it out of its misery. it finally died and i threw it in the woods.

so i get home and theres some blood splatter on me, not a lot at all, but i have a scab and there was a spot near it. i also had one right below my nose so maybe i got some blood in my mouth...



The place i killed it is like 30 mins away so i cant go out and get it tonight to take it wherever to get it tested..so should i be worried or what?

Dude chill he put the thing out of itss misery, it was going to die anyway.  Kind of brutal though.  but if it was during the night then you should be alright, if it was during the day you might want to get checked out.  either way i would call ur doctor.  if u do have rabies i think they just give u a few sieres of shots and you will be fine

Yeah that is pretty disgusting, and probably should of just left it but oh well. I would play it safe and call up your doctor and schedule an appt. or something.

Well, this kinda sucks for you. Rabies is usually transmitted via being either bitten or scrtached by an infected animal. What really sucks is that raccoons are one of the biggest rabies carriers. This holds especially true for raccoons seen during the day, as they're primarily night creatures. If it bit or scratched you, you might have to be worried. Getting the blood on you, especially around a potentially open wound is also very worrying.

Now here's the big thing - you need to lie. You see, what you did, while morally acceptable, is illegal. You could get in serious trouble for what you did. You need to concoct some kind of story like your dog starting ripping apart a disabled raccoon in your yard, you went to try to help / get it away from your dog. In the struggle you got some blood on you, around your scab. Then, after the struggle, your dog successfully killed it, as it was making a final escape.

I don't know how you're going to account for the knife holes. Hopefully the tester isn't too bright, and thinks they are dog bite marks. That's kind of a stretch though. Definitely go back and get the raccoon, as soon as possible. They cannot really test you for rabies, only the raccoon. I believe they test its brain somehow. The sooner you get it in to be tested, the better. Getting treated for rabies is very not fun, so definitely get the raccoon tested.

This is not something you should "wait and see" on. Rabies can be deadly, and treatment needs to begin as soon as possible.

here is a similar story

I ran over a squirrel in my neigborhood i got out to see if he was ok but he was coughing up blood and wasnt moving at all. I put him in a box and took him the vet but they were closed so i put him in my basement because it was freezing outside and gave him water and milk. The next day he still wasnt moving but he drank some of the water. The next day he drank some of the milk so i gave him more milk and some peanuts. The next day he had alot of energy and he was moving around well so I let him outside and he ran into my yard. Ive been feeding him peanuts ever since and hes doing well and hes not afraid of me so i think he remembers that i helped him.

You are fucked up. You should have just let the animal die on it's own, since you didn't know how to end it's life quickly and properly.

In his last moments I bet that raccoon said, "Fuck you asshole, I hope you get my rabies!!"

Even though that would seriously suck.

As funny and brutal of a story that was, I think the thread creator had decent intentions to put it out of it's misery. 

Personally I would just let the thing die cause I don't fuck with scary raccoons...havent u seen Saving Silverman, Wayne gets owned.
