About buying selling online

So I am tierd of how people go about buying and selling stuff on here. for one thing people seam to want a ridiculusly large amount for alot of their stuff. Some of you should take a look at this:

"50% of current price (not MSRP)
-10% per year old
-10% per times drilled, per core shot, per delam...etc
-10% per marker binding attatched
+10-30% for Rare/High-demand item 
those are the tgr guidelines, and they are over all a good idea for selling used ski gear since buying it from some guy on the internet is not the same as buying it new from a shop. When buying from a member on NS you are not getting the same things that you do with a shop. The main differences are that you will not get a warrenty with your purchase and you are taking a risk since not every one is trustworthy (most are and that is great but still...).  Generaly if you want your item to sell it is a good idea to follow the guide lines above. However, they are guidelines, so if there is something that you are not sure that you want to sell or if it has a fairly high personal attachment value to you  you may want to price things higher. Likewise if you really don't want it anymore it is nice to hook a fellow member up so maybe drop the price a little. Affter all none of us is rolling in dough, and we are a online comunity. So help a brother out

Now moving on to the main thing I wanted to get at. The whole idea of online buing and selling. One thing that is really buging me and I think people should notice is that for the most part none of the prices that people post are firm. It is not like a store where an employ is not allowed to change the price. The person selling the gear on here is the same person who owns the gear (in most casses). This means that no price is 100% un changable. In fact this is how, for the most part, the rest of the world (out side of mainline consumerism) works. If you go to a market in mexico you haggle over the price. This is how online selling works. So buyers realize that you can talk the seller down. And sellers realize that a buyer will try and talk you into selling cheaper. Overall buying and selling can be much more fun if both parties do this. So for instance Say I was trying to sell a pair of Oakley crobars that retail for $100 or so. I hope to get around $40 to $50 for them so I make a thread saying that I have crowbars for sale with a price of say $55-$70.  Then ryanbdonk sees them and would like to buy them for as cheap as he can So he throws me a lowball offer of $35 for them I obviously think that is a bit low so I respond by saying $55 shipped. Ryan again does not want to pay that much so he decides to offer me $40 plus shipping. I respond with $45 plus shipping. Ryan is content with this price so he agrees and we have a deal made. If people realize that this is really an online market place and not tramdock.com, and bargin over things, the process of buying and selling gear would be alot more enjoyable over all.

Of course there is another aspect that can occur and that is when multiple people are either trying to buy or sell the same/simmilar items. If there are multiple buyers an auction will acure (this does happen ocationaly) So say we return to our origional sale of the crowbars. Now it is not just ryanvdonk that wants the goggles but samcaylor does too. So affter Ryan makes his bid of $35, Sam might say that he will pay $40. (when doing this try not to up bid by less the 10% for most stuff since that is just an ass thing to do) now we have ryan and sam going for the same item and they will up each other till they reach a limit. As the seller I can also continue to bargin like the last example. 
Now if there are two or more sellers trying to sell the same or simmilar item the auction goes in reverse with sellers lowering their prices untill the items sell or they go lower then they want to sell them for. 

So over all if the members of this site treat this as a market palce and not a ski shop, remember that the rest of us work for our money too, don't steal from NS'ers, and be awear that the stuff you bought 6 months ago is probably not worth $10 less then you paid for it; we can have a nice enjoyable time exchanging gear.
