New Salomon binding, z12, claims autofitting wings

among other things, that is quite the claim. I am not saying it is untrue; in fact, I will be impressed if that is true since that is the biggest deterrant (that and durability) with Salomons current s912 and s914 models. Uhh, those look exactly the same as the ones on my mom's 5 year old skis.

well, my buddy is 6'6" 250 lbs and he skis with a din of like 8. What person needs a din that high unless they are doing huge hits or going mach 12 in the BC

salomon seems to be reusing ideas and designs from past years because i have a pair amlost identical to that, and they are almost 5 years old. That design was notorious for pre-realese and yet i have heard almost no negative feed back from these. Time will be the only real way for any real assment to be made on these bindings, so untill then i say take regualr thoughts about salomon bindings to them. That they might just pre-realease just after you clip in

My problem with them wasn't the toe piece, but the damn heels tearing out. It looks like those are still unchanged.

the z12's are going to be the shit. they're 17% lighter than the current 912s. they are torsionally stiffer than any other binding on the market besides race stocks because it's not plastic anymore. it's carbon.. you don't have to fuck with the toe height and wing adjustments anymore since they're automatic. did i mention that they are an entire pound lighter than the next lightest 12 din binding on the market?

i'm stoked to get a pair. i've heard they ski amazingly well and the toes are a HUGE improvement.

I was thinking the exact same thing, but I refuse to pass judgment until I actually talk to someone in person who didnt like the old Salomons and likes the new ones. I have a pair of s912s on my skis right now, but I am still not sold on salomons. Although, after my recent injury with p12s I could care less about early and often release as long as my body is not torn to pieces :/

Hey Guys,
I mounted a Z12 Ti on a 177cm Volkl Matra the other day and the whole thing weighed in at 11.5 pound for a pair. It is incredible how lightweight the binding is. I skied them this spring and have 2 pairs on skis right now for next winter. I was very imnpressed how much nicer the torsioanl rigidity of the binding is over a Rossignol/Look. I never thought I would be saying that about any binding manufacturere, but I think Salomon has made the best binding for 2007. Dont get me wrong, I love the Look/Rossi bindings, but the new Z12 Ti's are incredibly light and rigid.

My first question about any binding that has "I'm the lightest thing you can buy" is, "Can you take my 200+ lb frame landing on your repeatedly from moderate heights at speed without shattering?" Maybe if someone can answer that question for me conclusively, I'll start taking an interest. Oh, and it'd be cool if I didn't have to pay quite that much for them, seeing as how I could get race stock metal for cheaper.

agreed. Us bigger skiers need something that can take some serious force on landings. It is true they are a bit expensive, but by the end of the year they will be cheaper (I hope)

hey man just wondering if you knew anything about the heel of the z12. i've had problems with regualr s912 heels being shit. carbon heels on the new bidnings any clue?

anything would be better than the old wings, they always came loose and needed to be tightened constantly

i'm don't know about that. pretty sure they're making a z14, and the 916/920 will be the same all-metal construction as always. don't quote me on that though.

The 14 is still a S 914 with the driver toe piece like the S916 amnd S9120 but no steel unless it is the 914 lab binding. The Z bindings will just be in the 10 and 12 DIN for this year and you can get the Ti which are lighter or the non Ti which are stonger but slightly heavier. If you are over 200lbs I would suggest the regular Z12 binding and not the Ti.

Why don't you compare the two toe pieces before making claims you can't back up. The wings on the Z bindings are totally different than the Quadraz toe piece. More boot contact not to mention the torsional rigidity of the binding can not even be compared to other Salomon bindings. Once you have skied them you will see that they are right up the Axial Bindings.
