MacBook vs. MacBook Pro

Hey, I'm trying to decide on a laptop for college. Do you guys think that the price difference between the lowest quality MacBook Pro and the highest quality MacBook is too large? I mean, what genuine advantages does the Pro have that really makes it worth $400 more?

I'm assuming by pro apps you mean final cut pro, ect. How does it not support it, you have a 2.0ghz processor, more than enough. I don't know where you getting the idea that the macbook doesn't support these programs, it has enough power for any mac application.

basically, if you do any apple motion/video games stuff and intensive FCP work, go with the pro. If you're just doing some basic editing and dont plan on playing any games or messing around with apple motion, go with the regular mac book.

While it might not be supported, FCP still runs pretty well for single track editing and basic effects, not great, but its doable.

get the por, its way betetr built quatly is +10.....but i think the plain mac book stil supports pro apps, cuz its better then my comp and mine runs em.

and the macbook has an embedded intel graphics chip, which is not compatible with apple's pro application suite (final cut studio) or skake/logic, not that anyone here would use shake


if you still argue, by a macbook and attempt to run final cut, dvd studio, etc, prove me wrong

Made some comments on a similar discussion in the Media & Arts forum.

IMHO, integrated video graphics are the devil. Especially when you're dealing with Aperture & Motion.

If you're spending the money (or pirating) Aperture and Motion, you need more than a fucking MacBook. Common sense people, if you don't have any, buy some.

If you're taking notes, lugging your computer from class to the coffee shop to the library to your friend's house to whistler, back to class, then home, playing around with iMovie, some music stuff, and watching a shit ton of DVDs, a MacBook will do you just fine. Up the ram and your integrated graphics won't be so bad.

Minimum gig. Anything less is pointless on 10.4 intel when emulating with rosetta.

For aperture, I'd just throw 2 gb in there. It runs much faster when you can devote a crap ton of ram to it.

Yeah...I've never really used Macs except in video editing class, so I'm not too Mac literate yet. Thanks for all the help. Another question I have is..how easy is it to get programs such as Final Cut Pro and Photoshop and all that without paying the full price? I mean, I'm sure there are sites like Kazaa that I can download them from, but do sites like that fuck up Macs as they do PCs? Dumb questions, I know, but oh well. Thanks anyhow.

One more retarded question. If I have the disk for Microsoft Office for Windows and I install Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro, can I then install the Windows version of Office on my MacBook Pro? And will that shit work?
