UVM isnt that close to moutains, its a small hippy school like every other vt school, and is expensive as hell unless I guess you are all rich. I goto umass which is an hour from mt snow and has a very low hippy factor and its a real college knows how to party. Pick PSU if you want a more party school thats closer to skiing (plymouth) its only like 15 from loon. But if you wana have a lift outside of skiing I suggest Umass cuz you get the feeling of a REAL colege atmosphere here by far.
Umass is the way to be. I usually get to Mt. Snow at around 45-50 mins. Maybe you ^^ should drive a lil faster there, grandma. Umass has a more "diverse" party scene: hippies, frat punks, laid back stuff, etc. etc. etc. PLUS Mt. Snow park is usually insane compared to most stuff around UVM.
As for academics, a state school is basically a state school. You're not going to get a job because you went to UVM over Umass. The school you went to is totally irrelevant...unless you're an Ivy League person. Trust me, I hire people ALLLL the time for my company and shit like that doesnt matter. If you wanna pay $30K for UVM over the $12K over Umass (in state), maybe you should check who the "smarter person" is. College loans arent fun.
i hav nothin against hippies. But in the party/college scene they aren't fun. And I'm not a masshole I'm New jersey bro. All im tryin to say is that UVM isnt always the anser like everyone else thinks it is.....plus it aint worth the price you pay for it-its just a state school.
i was looking there for grad school! my sis is transfering to johnson stae...i guess its near smuggs...adn they got a terrain park on campus...i donno if its true...thats what they told her tho
Don't talk shit about something you know nothing about. We are closer to good skiing than UMass, we actually do party believe it or not. We have hippies, but they make up like
^ your the one who is talkin "any shit." I was just trying to make a simple point thats all-not everyone has hundreds of thousands of dollars to be able to afford UVM man. I'm sorry I probably would have went if I could have afforded it, but I can't and I'm just trying to help other people out that are in the same financial situation as I am. I just did what I could with what I had to work with- I know theres 10 times better skiing at UVM I'm not clueless, I'm just trying to look up about it all and give myself and others the benefit of the doubt. It's such shame that if you wana go a ski school these days you have to have money or get a very good scholarship....I would be out west in a second if places like CU -Boulder werent an arm and leg to goto, but I can't. I know life aint fair blah blah blah, for me skiing mt snow every weekend is amaazing considering where I grew up the closest "mountain" (if you call pa mountains) is 2hours away and no one even skis at all. Bitch at me all you want, make fun of me b/c I'm from NJ, and I suck at life b/c I ended up there, but don't call me out on bashing a school when I'm just trying to make a point and give some advice for those inquiring about it.
i go to champlain, its probably one of the best ski colleges, cheaper and much easier than uvm, and if you pick the right program, you can graduate and come out with a respectable education. champlain has some cool majors not offered elsewhere. plus i can ski 6 out of 7 days of the week at sugarbush mad river stowe smuggs, and its in burlington, oo and for hippies, they stick together, lots of parties-hippie free
As you can see my reply got cut off in mid sentence, but im not trying to talk shit so let me explain myself. Just the stuff you said isn't true at all. UVM has a reputation for having a lot hippies, but that is no longer true. Yes there are hippies, but they make up a tiny portion of the student body. And I admit UVM is expensive, but I mean not everyone here is rich. There is tons of people who have taken out loans and gotten all sorts of scholarships. It sucks if you wanted to come here and couldn't afford it, I realize a lot of people have faced that problem, but others have been lucky enough to overcome that. Finally whatever you said about not UVM not giving you a real college experience just isn't true. Notice, I never said anything negative about Umass, or NJ. That was other people in this thread. I just want to set the facts straight for people interested in UVM, much like you are.
As for east coast ski colleges, if you want to be really close to the mountain, go to Green Mountain College because its located on the access road to killy.
Yeah they do have one on campus ive seen it, i got accepted there dont know if im going or not yet but the campus is sick, its a frisbee golf course too
