park etiquette....and the lack of it!!!!!

You know....it's only the first week of the winter and all ready about 90% of the people who have been out skiing/boarding are pissing me off. The reason??? Lack of fucking common sense, lack of courtesy and lack of park etiquette.
1. If there is a fence up...there is a reason for it. Don't knock it down because you don't want it. ESPECIALLY fencing to the entrance of the park and pipe. That fence is required to be there for insurance reasons. If it keeps getting knocked down and there is an insurance person there doing an inspection....guess what...there is no longer a park/pipe cause they've cancelled the insurance for it. And by the way, insurance has tripled for all ski resorts.
2. Wait until a jump is clear before going over it. If there are slower people in front of you or someone who isn't as good, give them enough time to get out of the way. There have been kids killed on tables/hips etc, from taking a ski to the head or abdomen. That too will get terrain parks shut down.
3. Don't be an ass to patrol, especially if they've temporarily closed a jump/rail down for an accident. I don't know how many times I was bitched at this weekend for blocking a rail while patrol attended to someone who had dislocated their shoulder. Ski patrol have a lot of influence on management and in extreme cases can have the park shut down.
4. If a feature (ie. rail or table) is shut blocked off...don't open the thing at your leisure. There is a reason for it. If you want that feature open, find the terrain park staff or patrol and find out why it's not open. Maybe there is something unsafe, or maybe staff were about to get around to fixing it so it would be better. I had a table closed off this weekend so the take-off could set (this was just for about 30 mins as it had just been groomed)...I came back and about 100 people had gone off the table, destroying the take-off (making a big ass rut that was unfixable)and spent the rest of the day trying to explain to people why the take-off sucked.
Anyway, this was just to vent. A bit of common sense and park etiquette may be all we need to keep our terrain parks open and safe.

I agree with ya totally. These ppl have to be kicked off the hill. I also think that there has to be some sorta entrance thing, that only experienced jibbers, and learners can go to. Also, you fuck up once, ure booted off the park, until u can prove that u can be responsible again.

Definetly, last year i hit a table and wiped and a older snowboader prolly like 18 hit the jump right after i wiped. He was coming right at me i had like a half a second to react which i was lucky i could cuz he missed me by like a half a foot. He could of definetly caused some damage if he hit me cuz he was coming right at my face.

Agree totally. On Sat. at Horseshoe we discussed this many times on how kids don't have any clue what is going on around them. They are in their own little world and are completely clueless to people coming down the hill. These are the kids that sit on the landings of jumps, cut you off, snake you, etc. They have no idea they are doing it. How can this be prevented? It will only get worse over the years as population in winter sports get higher.

I agree w/ girljibber not the dude above me. Sorry for the confusion. If the problem isn't fixed then it'll only get worse and it leads to dangerous situations. If you don't realize this then you probably fall into the class of the 'kids that are clueless' and you are part of the problem. Skiing and snowboarding and skiboarding for that matter, are sports where you have to be constantly aware of your surroundings. So yeah, we're taking the time to post on a serious problem. Better then your posts in the T. Hall Style symposium.

I totally agree with you Lanemeyers. These kids have their own little world. And in their world, reality and video games are the same thing.
I know some 11 year-old boarder who screwed his wrists cuz on his second day boarding in his whole life, he thought he was good enough for some massive tabletops. i'd hate to say it but, he deserved it

I agree with this but everyone still needs to chill. It isn't just snowboarders and it isn't just in parks. So many fuckin idiot kids have run over the back of my skis in lift lines i just wanna fuckin snap. Also, snowboarders in the killington park were just a good as the skiers, most even better so it isn;t their fault. I saw plenty of dumb shit new skiers with their $500 twins this week going slower than hell into the rail then hockey stopping at the lip and ruining the 30 mintues of prep the snowbard park guy just spent makin it mint. So have some respect for the boarders and make sure you too are having the respect before u rant, not saying you are disrespectful girljibber, just making sure everyone is playing fair

ya totfuckingally! In snowmass I was going on this table top and since I kinda suck I guess I was going a tiny bit slow and this snwboarder comes from behind me going way too fast. If I haden't have slowed down even more hewould have gone off the jump at the same time as me. so he made me land on top of the jump which really fucking hurt

the first time i went to whistler i rolled up to the highest level area and thought to myself how lame it was that i had to pay extra and sign a waiver to go in.. but on second thought, i keeps out all the problem makers. maybe this is a thing that should be more common... id throw down a few extra bucks to get an uncrowded park...

hell yes. I can't stand people who sit there right next to rails and stuff just watching. I hit/almost hit 2 or 3 dumbass snowboarders last time i went because they wouldn't get their asses at of the way. They stop right on the landing of a rail just so they can watch other people going off a different rail (i'm not saying this is just snowboarders thats just what happened last time i went) and it's not exactly easy to stop on a dime right after a rail.

someone else might of said this, but the biggest problem on my hill right now is that the rail park is narrow and packed all the time, so packed that people sit on the landings of rails, ive seen at least three people get railed with skis and boards. and that whole not waiting till the other person is done thing, that happens alot to, i got wacked in the head with someones ski when i fell off a rail cause he waited about 2 seconds after i went. bastard kids

I couldn't agree with you more. One time a little racer kid came in switch and tried to hit the table (no twins) but he must've realised how stupid he was because he turned around before he hit it but wiped out half way through and slid up and wrecked the lip. It sucked.

Why do people sit around in the terrain park? Its for skiing not sitting. I ski up and theres 20 people sitting there and noone going off the jump. Why do snowboarders do it? I don't get it.

A few years ago, I was skiing with a friend of mine and there were all these parents taking liegons of their little scum-suckers with them through the park. You had the kids on leashes and these parades of little midgets trying to go off 20 foot tables. My friend was about to go off a 15 footer when this little kid comes out of nowhere and attempts to go off. My friend hits the jump, someone screams 'OH MY GOD! HE'S GOING TO KILL HIM!!!!!' and clears the kid. Everyone starts clapping because he clears this kid. Then about 3 minutes later, the same kid does the same thing and my friend clears him again. Idiots.

At tali, snowboarders aren't the problem, in fact most of the boarders have good park ettiquette. Our main problem is first time skiers who can barely turn, and decide they want to go in to the park. They ussualy they come in swarms and just crowd the hill. ITs so agrevating, cause half of them can't even make it up the lip of a 10ft kicker

The problem is posers, little kids and racers. I'm gonna hit this table and some little kid (he was like 7) trys to ski up this table. He only makes it half was and i gotta stop and miss it and I never got to jump it cause of some queer little kid. I saw some queer guy who tryed to do a 360 but didn't even spin a 180 and wiped out and just kinda sat there. And snowboarders sit. They are really gay posers (most of them anyway).

There are alot of problems at ski resorts. The Park at my mountains is pretty small, so we usually just build A big kicker in between these two hills. i have had a couple problems with assholes. you go and wait your turn, 'dropping!' and you start to cruz in, some little kid goes and hits the jump, and off to the side is his redneck dad tell him to do so. But anyway, they need a park pass thing, where if you are gonna be in the pipe, going off ANY jumps or rails, you need to pass a little basic test. if you pass, you get a little ticket thing, and if you don't you have to go to a class. if your cought without it, you get kicked out and forced to take the class.

I don't mind the boarders sitting at the top of the inrun waiting. just call dropping next and hit it. its the people that just fly in from halfway down the inrun and just ski over the jump. I don't mind people that arn't very good. all of us were in that stage at one point. and if you don't try something new, then you will never learn. but people that sit/stop where they obstruct an obvious inrun/outrun bother me the most.

not a good idea. if you're comin at a table switch or something and all of a sudden you bindings fuck up, there's no where to go but up the jump. fencing the inrun is pretty dangerous!

A couple more things, wait your fucking turn. I hate people who come screaming into the park and go ahead of a long line of skiers and boarders at the top of the park. If you knock destroy a lip or kicker to rail, stop and fix it. Sure its bound to happen sometime but just don't go skiing off and expect the people behind you to fix it.
