Short ski videos have been the blood pumping through the veins of Newschoolers since we added the video section waaay back. We variously call them edits, shorts, short films, and more, and it’s hard to know where exactly to draw the line between the three. For the NS awards, cuts over 10 minutes were eligible for Outstanding Video Project. Those sub-10 minute films, were judged as shorts. And whatever you call them, we couldn’t have an awards without recognizing perhaps the most important part of ski media in our eyes. The Newschoolers Awards are presented by Toyota & Mountain Dew.

Follow Henrik Harlaut thru the ups and downs that was January 24th at X Games Aspen 2020. On this day in Henrik's life you get to go behind the scenes as he makes it into the X Games history books by becoming the most decorated Ski Athlete in X Games History with 12 medals in total.
In 2015, Sochi Olympic slopestyle silver medalist Gus Kenworthy came out as the first male gay action sports star. Now he hopes to become the first openly gay man to compete in the winter Olympics. (At the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics there were at least 41 gay, lesbian, or bisexual athletes.) Kenworthy is considered by many to be the best all-around freeskier in the world, excelling in halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air and has been crowned the AFP’s overall champion for the last seven years in a row. This is the story of Kenworthy’s struggle to come out and the bravery that it took.

In this ski tutorial, we are going to learn how to flatspin on skis and how to rodeo on skis. To learn the trick we off course have a look at what’s the difference is between the two and how the tricks are done on trampoline. Some of you are going to think they should be named the inverse but here’s my thinking. The more forwards set is possible to make much less inverted than the trick with the backward set. Thus the real flatspin should be set a wee bit forwards. I too call the crooked backflip a flat 3 every now and then to keep it simple even if I believe the correct name should be rodeo 3. The aviation industry has an explanation for what it is.
I have done my homework and I hope this video may clarify the two tricks and does not add to the confusion.
