FilmerUnknown 2017 is proudly presented by Sony, RODE, and Music Vine.
Open to amateur filmmakers around the world, FilmerUnknown provides an opportunity for them to get recognized, win free gear, and get a foot in the door of the action sports filmmaking community!

The 4th annual FilmerUnknown brought in 145 entries from around the globe, from filmmakers in 14 countries, ranging in age from 14 to 47 for a total of 2018 minutes of total content. Our panel of judges reviewed each and every second, judging for creativity, technical ability, technique, use of light and motion- no small task! When the dust settled we had selected 5 Finalists who will be receiving camera packages from Sony and RODE and producing 90 second final films set to music from Music Vine- stay tuned for their release in mid-April!

Strictly Wins Crew of the Year | 2020 Newschoolers Awards, Presented by Toyota

One of the most important parts of skiing is being out on the mountain or in the streets with your friends. Crews have always been the backbone of the freeski content industry and the Newschoolers community. This award goes to the crew that has had the most impressive 2019, judged by their media output, most often a movie, throughout the year.

Fans can participate by also answering in the comments section of Instagram during this part of the contest. We will monitor the 3-4 fans who answered the most questions correctly in the comments and then bring them in live at the end, with the contestant who answers the most questions correctly winning a pair of Armada JJs!

Magma Wins Best Short | 2020 Newschoolers Awards Presented by Toyota

Since the beginning, short ski videos have been the blood pumping through the veins of Newschoolers. We variously call them edits, shorts, short films, and other names, and it’s hard to know where exactly to draw the line between the three. But whatever you call them, we couldn’t have an awards ceremony without recognizing perhaps the most important part of ski media in our eyes.

Marie Martinod is a skiing legend, with not one but two ski careers to her name. Having crushed the competition scene and starred in multiple ski movies, she retired to start a family back in 2006. In 2013 she returned to the sport, winning two X Games Golds Olympic Golds, and two Olympic medals before retiring for a second time. After brief (but entertaining) technical difficulties, long-term friends Eric Iberg and Phil catch up with Marie to relive the glory days.

RECIPE is a 100% female Freeski documentary, filmed during winter 21/22. From the steep mountains of the French Alps to the streets of Salt Lake City, this movie highlights the current level of women's freeskiing, while going deep into the motivations, mindset, and sorority needed to push their limits on skis. A movie about the strength of a female action sports collective.

Directed by Coline Ballet-Baz.
