JUICE put in work last season and that's quite obvious... even with a few broken bones and torn ligaments the kid threw down.

“Better Now”, a film by Nicholas Suchy and Ty Urlich releasing this fall!
This is a film project we’ve been working on over the past year in British Columbia and Alberta. We wanted to create something to showcase not only our skiing but everyone around us on the west coast. Huge shout out to everyone that helped us out along the way!

I tried to ski this line maybe 8 years ago, the last time the NZ Open big mountain event was held in the Motutapu chutes at Treble Cone In Wanaka, New Zealand.
That time I screwed up the first hop turn and straight lined out to the left, crashing into the chute.
This time everything went to plan!
Goal for next season is to ski it faster!!
A glimpse into the 2016/2017 season at Mt. Baker, WA. Big thanks to my friends and family for the support, and for fueling the many unforgettable days that last winter held.

SPEEDBUMP
2020 created so many unique & different challenges 4 everyone in the ski and snowboard community, us as a brand included.
Luckily we quickly learned that not all SPEEDBUMPS along the road are negative, and with a positive mindset, the right goals & the right people with you these SPEEDBUMPS only become jumps in shaping and creating a stronger individual, or in our case a brand.
This year we approached our film by joining forces of all our snow riders to create one amazing film 4 all snow lovers, we all share the same passions, goals & objectives, learning & creating together along the way, feeding of one anothers good vibes. With how serious the climate crisis has become , it may not be around 4ever , may as well enjoy it together :)

Last year I wanted to take a year off from working on another movie, but also still wanted an art project to work on. So finally, I took this opportunity to spend the winter learning how to work with 16mm film. I didn't want to just bring along something to shoot B Roll here and there, but rather commit to shooting entirely on celluloid. We ended up shooting it roughy 80/20 16mm to Super8. It was an awesome experience shooting things and not being able to review them right away, and kinda helped me just enjoy the moments in real life and time, without analyzing everything as it happens through a screen. This video is really a personal video journal from last winter with my friends and family between doing LINE and Smith stuff, and I hope you like it!
Shoutout to Stellar Equipment for being so nice and always supporting my little video ideas.

Exploring and skiing a first (known) couloir descent in this stunningly under-appreciated region, with my life on the line on occasions, was a particularly impactful adventure.
The Currant Mountain wilderness rests deeply hidden in the Great Basin of Nevada, one of the most remote and “desolate” spans in the contiguous US. The oldest trees on Earth blanket the high elevations, delivering sanctifying life to the colossal 11,500ft limestone spines. The area is accessible by hours of driving on a (poorly conditioned) forest service road, and hosts no hiking trails, making it mainly uninterrupted by human. I had been eager to one day climb the intimidating ridge ever since I stumbled across it a year back while searching Google earth for backpacking locations. As this year’s snowpack continued to deliver, the thought of potentially hiking and skiing Currant’s face became a real possibility, and so the time came.
I chose this particular couloir on the spot during the ascent climb up the neighboring ridge, as it looked much steeper and more exciting than what I had planned. It appeared skiable - barely. At the summit, I climbed up a steep cornice (my crampons being my lifeline), and could no longer turn back. I then skied my first turns and triggered what ended up being a good sized fast avalanche, followed by multiple others I triggered on my descent. Skiing away safely after 91 turns on some of the gnarliest terrain felt surreal. Damn, life is so cool.
Massive kudos to @cnphelan who helped build my confidence in regards to the conditions. His crew made the first known descent of Currant Mountain’s east fast just a few weeks back and shared helpful details on snow cover for other line options.
And yes… I forgot my helmet at the car.
Golden got dumped on the last few days! Stoked to have made the drive up from MT for a couple cold smoke resort laps.

In the last 10 years Chris has redefined what’s possible in the backcountry with the help of his pro model. And he not only contributes by giving his skis his own graphics and style but also came up with the idea of HRZN Tech and this ultimate powder design. Year by year he comes back to the Atomic R&D team and together they further develop and fine-tune every little detail to make the best powder ski even better.

Meet the son – the Mini. The perfect size and shape ski for young rippers with a taste for the fluffy stuff. A ski that makes the mountain feel like a big, incredible playground.
The 100 – a do-anything, go-anywhere, one-ski-quiver, totally prepped for taking it wherever you want to go. The everyday ski that brings the whole mountain to life.
You know dad – the 120. The visionary ski that sparked it all. It flies, it butters, it slashes and it carves new lines where none were before. With the wisdom of a mountain veteran and the speed and power of a well-oiled machine, the 120 brings float and fun on the deepest days.
This is the family, and they call the mountains home.

MORE THAN 60 YEARS ON WE’RE STILL HERE.
Since 1955, the equipment we’ve made in Altenmarkt has taken skiers to the top of every ski podium, further in the backcountry, smoother down the piste, higher in the half pipe and longer on the cross-country track.
The secret to our success? The know-how and passion of our employees and athletes. Skiing’s in our blood. It doesn’t just shape how we design and deliver our products. It inspires and defines us.
It always has and always will.

In early February 2020, covid cases were starting to show up on cruise ships, Japan was having one of their worst snow years on record and the TC crew had already booked a trip into the heart of it all. Luckily, the pandemic held off just long enough for them to film an episode, capture a bunch of ridiculous phone videos and return back home safely.
On 4 April 2018 I had the best worst day ever.
Daniel Thomson and I were having one of the best pow days of our lives in the Lake Louise backcountry when the day suddenly took a turn for the worse. My ski snagged a hidden rock which threw me into the snow - headfirst, directly onto another hidden rock. I knew immediately that I had a serious injury and that I wouldn't be able to get off the mountain on my own. My helmet was destroyed and I broke my back in several places, but I was extremely fortunate to escape without any serious head or spinal cord injuries.
I have no doubt my Pret helmet saved my life that day. Daniel and I wanted to turn this negative experience into a positive message about the importance of stacking the odds in your favour.
All credit to Daniel for putting this together and telling this story.
I also owe a huge debt of gratitude to so many people who were involved in my rescue and who took care of me in the aftermath:
- Daniel
- Dave Petch & Casey Robinson and the rest of Lake Louise Ski Patrol
- Jasper Johnson
- Parks Canada Visitor Safety
- All the EMS staff and the staff and the Mineral Springs and Calgary Foothills hospitals
- Jessica Hall
- Dave Williams
- All the friends who were there to sort logistics and provide much needed moral support (and delicious meals)
