It’s never quite as easy as it looks in the movies. Even the best professional skiers regularly put their bodies through trials and tribulations in search of that elusive moment when it all comes together- the perfect light with the perfect snow, fingers finding the grab, edges locking onto a rail or ledge, speed perfectly dialed, and balanced feet finding their way to the ground as they prepare for landing.
For every magical shot in your favorite film, edit, or photo, dozens or more hit the cutting room floor. In reality its a waiting game of hours, days, or weeks for light. The snow is harder than it looks. Grabs are often missed. Edges fail. Speed is off- too fast, too slow. That perfect balance point eludes even the most talented as they plummet to the ground below. Didn’t get the shot? No matter- pick up your gear and hike back up for another try. Or a few more. As many as it takes to get the shot or until you can break the habit.

For Episode 1 I started in Austria, meeting up with Paddy Graham and Tom Ritsch to get to know Tom's home country. Austria provided us with Monstrous mountains, amazing snow, and Mama made Schnitzel.

I have endless gratitude for Vishnu for making it easy to beat on skis, Smokeproper and MutedLTD for trusting us with the funds to make it all happen, Tall T Productions for the gas gear they hooked it with, and Josh Berman at Level 1 for all the knowledge and the only roof I'd ever want over my head in CO.

Short self-edit of my shots from last year. It was one of the most fun seasons yet and I also did my first big trip around the world, skiing in Finland, China, Canada and USA. Huge thanks to everybody that I got to ski and hang out with, and all of the filmers and supporters!
Phil Casabon and go-to filmmaker friend Brady Perron use a fresh recipe in their latest piece Nuance. Using their strong chemistry, the duo flips a new page, hitting home for skiers and beyond. Phil continues taking chances to grow and push his craft, a task easier said than done. Motivated by a ski background and Quebecois heritage, Perron shoots to reflect a lesser-known side of Casabon. Nuance keeps a high-performance ski standard but manifests Phil’s spiritual connection and obsession with his savoir-faire. Casabon’s goofy youthfulness remains strong while an increasingly intense focus looms. Nuance digs into a hands-on and harsh journey, one scattered with wintry vibes, Phil’s je ne sais quois and a fistful of special moments. A contrasting collection of audio and imagery represent the healing, fun, and dismay necessary for Casabon to fulfill his goals. Perron’s lens and post-production glue together a souvenir of months shooting rather than a document.

Visionary is a streetskiing video by a group of three amateur skiers. Every second of the video came off without outside help: From the filming and bungee pulling to editing, only the three of us were involved in the process of making the video. No sponsors, cycling to the spots, beat up skis and low budget cameras. It was all good fun, and that's all that matters.
