I've officially downsized... the E1 22 is now my daily driver backpack anytime snow has fallen from the sky (rarer than I'd like these days). If I'm venturing further into the backcountry, the 30L is still what I take with me (at a pinch, I can get a bivvy and a sleeping bag in there), but for resort accessed powder and small slackcountry ventures, the 22L has been a serious winner for me. The E1 system is lightweight, making this one of the lighter options on the market, canister or electric. That's particularly important to me, and doubtless most NS members, because having a heavy weight on your back SUCKS for throwing tricks.
The bag deploys fast and reliably when I've tested it. It also charges fast and the capacitors will recharge on the go when you add in a set of AA batteries. Basically, the reason I like this bag so much is convenience. It's the most user-friendly airbag out there in my opinion.
The more compact size of the 22L, and the 'closer to the back' fit makes it even less noticeable when throwing tricks than the 30, which I was already impressed by, and I really will happily carry it any time it snows just to be on the safe side. It's actually a squeeze for my current shovel (a BCA shaxe which doesn't fold) but it will accommodate a normal avvy kit easily, along with a bottle of water, a spare lens, a gopro and spare layer/gloves... but that's about it. And that's all I want most days because I'm more focused on being able to play around with the features I find than going on the craziest adventure. For backcountry jibbers, especially those without sled access, this is the bag for you. - @Twig
The SCOTT Patrol E1 22 is the smaller version of our iconic E1 Patrol electronic avalanche backpack family. With a smaller volume but with all the same features as the 30 litre, this pack is perfect for quick ascents or heli-skiing outings.
