The North face thermoball is a TNF classic. It’s been reengineered over the years to become one of the most eco friendly pieces on the market. It’s a puffy insulted fill that has a nice finish to it that makes a statement. I have the fire red and it stands out. I love the classic black shoulder patches that TNF is known for and the tightness of the hood.
It’s not the burliest of mid layers but that is part of it's charm - it's not too bulky under a shell. I’ve used it touring without a jacket and it kept my body temperature cool while retaining enough warmth for comfort. The fabric is rugged enough to ward off sticks and branches when moving through tight zones and the moisture just beads off.
In terms of fit, I am 5’10 with a medium build and found a Medium fits just right. Mobility wise and wrist tightness are spot on with a draw string at the hip to close up airflow from below.
This is an absolute classic and easy to bring on any trip thanks to its easy fold up design.
Waterproofing: water resistant - windproof
Breathability: very breathable
Fit: slim / tight fit
