Like it says in your email and in that article, it's talisker bullying PCMR. Both sides fucked up big time with this lease renewal and now talisker/vail is trying to take advantage of it. Pretty sure nothing will come of this and things will move on, they will settle a new contract/suit/whatever it takes, PCMR won't back down. But, we shall see what happens in the next week or so.

Either way, fuck talisker and now fuck vail too.

The biggest problem is that Talisker claimed on their tax write offs, and in the contract that was signed when PCMR put in the new 3 Kings lift that their lease would be extended, but then Talisker turned around and said "no wait, you didn't pay, no lease extension" so its a case of were they lying then, or lying now?


Still fucked. But, PCMR on the Epic pass would be nice

It's all gonna buff out really, this whole eviction thing is completely unnecessary and its just Vail trying to make pcmr look bad, I'd be very surprised if anything actually happened.

PCMR on the epic pass would be sweet but not sure how well that would bode for PC in general and I doubt powdr corp would give up that easily, not like they're a small company either.

Vail acquiring PCMR in general wouldn't be that bad if they kept the same employees/structure etc. I'm not sure what they're changing at the canyons but it doesn't seem like much. PCMR already runs really well so I'd hope they'd just let it keep going. But, that's not always the case. Plus, the fact vail may acquire PCMR over these bullshit lease disputes would be so fucking lame. If talisker/Vail actually bought PCMR as a resort instead of just trying to weasel their way in, I wouldn't care as much. Powdr corp is the one who is going to be fucked, PCMR won't go away.

I work for the Park city, The city not the resort, the city manager sent out an email that said they have 5 days to figure their shit out or PCMR was getting the boot and we are going to have to figure something out so it doesn't mess with the whole town.. The situation sucks but in all reality PCMR was getting a ridiculously low price on their lease, fair market value of it would have been at least 10x as expensive. They didn't re-sign before the the agreement expired then wanted to have the old agreement after the fact. You can look at Vail being the big bad resort, but in reality PCMR fucked up. And Vail did mess things up for the lower management over at the canyons..

I doubt they will run it this way, but PCMR does owns the front side.. From the top of 3 kings down including the half pipe and up the ridge to the top of the town lift down to town including payday.

But even if PCMR is given the boot, it's not like they're going to tear down all the infrastructure and such. I'd imagine it would just change names/ownership, no? If that's the case I bet 90% of the employees stay put since it would just be a huge hassle to fire/rehire all the people and the years of experience lost would make it a terrible choice.


So as far as the city is concerned, I don't know if you'd have to worry about anything?

Pretty dumb move by vail, they just caused a lot of noise but it is really just small potatoes. Park City the mountain will operate this winter; park city the town, ski utah and a shitload of other organizations need PCMR and will make sure this gets resolved.

Allow me to play devil's advocate (quite literally in this case). Talisker owns the property which PCMR operates on, and has now for some time. They have been leasing 3400 acres of property to PCMR for $150,000/year per the contract. So PCMR does not own all of the land they operate on. Now consider that Talisker leases only 1000 acres of property (part of the Canyons ski resort) from about 120 different private land owners of Park City (this city, not resort) for $3,000,000/year. I know that it's fough to put this in perspective -- but why should it be okay for Talisker to pay three million a year to operate only a portion of its resort, but it's completely eff'ed up when PCMR is told that the days of paying $150k for their resort are over? The two companies are currently having the courts figure it out. I'm confident of one thing -- VailCorp had no real interest in the Canyons. I believe that they were only interested in the Canyons (Talisker) so they could evict PCMR and have both resorts for the price of one.

as much as I hate Vail, they're just claiming the legal rights they have. It's PCMR's fault. PCMR could've stepped up and renegotiated the lease they let expire, but they didn't. Vail is just doing what Vail does, and that's taking over.

Part of the lease agreement on the land was that at the end of it the infrastructure would be left in place. As far as with the city, if one of the 3 biggest draws for tourists (and the namesake resort) closes shop it'll be a big impact on the whole town economically. A lot of lower old town businesses would be screwed without the town lift bringing hundreds of people right by their stores every day.

But I think its just a bunch of 1%er CEO's battling, In that press release Mike Goar GM of the canyons said that talisker has no intent to force PCMR to run anything in the 13/14 season any differently than usual.

Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds, a lawman who helped protect Park City Mountain Resort during the 2002 Winter Olympics, on Wednesday had the duty to send a deputy to inform the resort of Talisker Corporation's de facto eviction notice.

Edmunds said an attorney for Talisker Corporation contacted the Sheriff's Office Wednesday morning about a document known as a notice to quit. The sheriff said the deputy served the documents at the Salt Lake City law offices of PCMR's lead attorney, Alan Sullivan. He said the service is part of the statutory duties of the Sheriff's Office. The action on Wednesday "broke my heart," the sheriff said.

"I have great affinity for Park City Mountain Resort," Edmunds said, adding, "That affinity does not preclude me from doing my duty."

Edmunds was a police officer in Park City before being elected sheriff a little more than 10 years ago. While a Park City officer, he was assigned to be the venue commander for PCMR during the Olympics. The resort was a major Olympic venue, hosting skiing and snowboarding competitions.

Edmunds said the Sheriff's Office could be asked to assist if an eviction occurs. A request for assistance had not been made by Thursday morning, he said.

"After Fridays court hearing over the renewal of the lease for land upon which Park City Mountain Resort (PCMR) operates a Utah judge ordered Powdr Corp. officials to turn over emails between its executives and attorneys.

Judge Ryan Harris ordered that the crime-fraud exception to the Utah Rules of Evidence applies to the emails. The emails, which were exchanged over the final weekend of April 2011, might shed light on if Powdr Corp. officials are guilty in intentionally backdating a letter to Toronto, Canada-based Talisker Corp. The letter indicated Powdr’s intention to renew a long-term lease for another 20 years at rates well below the current market value.

If Talisker wins the case the outcome could result in what would essentially be a hostile takeover of PCMR by Vail Resorts."

All I know is that very few locals wanted Talisker in the town of PC at all. They started shit before they had even completed the purchase of the Canyon's resort. They've tried to take over historic properties and are bullying local organizations (other than PCMR) like High Ute Ranch etc. Moreover, they've snuck their money into some politician's pockets through the SKI LINK project. They are prepared for war on this one.
Talisker is a scumbag company with NO interest in local affairs, or the local economy. I strongly urge locals to BOYCOTT their resort's season passes.

I'm just blown away that PCMR fucked up literally the only thing in a ski resort that matters. But also Talisker/Vail have been at the heart of a few major Utah controversies, so i don't really feel for them either.

What in the fuck is happening in Park City?
