Anyone want free chairlifts?

Come to California and just straight up steal one (like those dudes in the czech republic did in this story: http://unofficialnetworks.com/ski-lift-stolen-czech-republic-96232/)

there's at least 6 abandoned doubles and even a single chair!

Kratka Ridge (30 minutes from LA!)

Somebody should get the balls, steal all the chairlifts available, then go start their own silverton somewhere by frankensteining the parts together.

Dude. These ski areas are abandoned. You don't even really have to sneak it, just buck up, load up a few semis, and BAM you got yourself some chairlifts and you're ready to start your own backyard ski hill if you've got the land.

Hell yeah dude. Imagine buying a mountain, making it private land, and putting up your own Silverton or Echo or something...just taking out all the old parts, putting in some old diesel engine from a used cargo truck, and a new drive or something, frankensteining all the towers and parts together and sending it? fuckin badass, man. I hope someone takes up my idea and decides to give'r.

OR, get power back to one of the lifts, we could put in like $1000 for maintance and jurry rig the lift back to life. then we don't have to steal anything. We could have our own powder stashes and holy fuckery this sounds awesome.


A generator the size needed to power a chairlift, at auction probs around $1200. I've seen them go for as little as $350.

Just get everyone in the Reno/Tahoe/Carson area to help out and make a NS ski area.
And I'm down to help out if we can get a bomb ass hill to ourselves, I was just thinking of going up with my truck and getting an actual chair for my yard or something

Yeah, those single chairs are fucking sick, I was thinking about that too.


But imagine this. 15-30 NS & TGR members go to Iron Mountain, all with their sleds, shovels, and skis and snowboards. We make a sick park, we find sick ass powder stashes. I mean, that area is getting shitted on this week, and must have like 3-4 feet of just straight untouched powder. But we all go up, have a sick ass time. We could make a sick edit from it too. The things we could do. I googled this and the pictures are so fucking sick. We could do a segment like Logan Imlachs in Sunny in the building, we could make a small jump up the lodge, i mean, holy fucking shit. This is making me so god damn stoked.

As cool as it is it's a little different then that, you have got to be fucking precise when you set up a lift, if you don't, there's a good chance the cable will come off. Not to mention it would have to pass an inspection.


Also btw the Krakta single would probably fall apart if you look at it funny

I saw a 250HP generator go for $1000 flat.

Why wouldn't people just sell it to a dealer at that price? and nah I've never been to one, sounds interesting. What sort of power would you need for a person? I would imagine that 250hp could take more than a hundred people?

You're going to want a pretty good diesel if you're going to be sending a chairlift up anything remotely steep. That means far more power than a 250hp generator could go. You'd probably want to buy new, or well maintained rather than jerryrigging it if you want adequate saftey.

Pretty sure a few countries in the alps (thinking austria and switzerland) when a chairlift is set in place and cannot be moved elsewhere on the mountain. So if the put a lift in a shitty place they can't move it anywhere else on the mountain and it becomes useless. So they literally give the lifts away to other ski hills, they just have to pay to remove and ship it.

Crystal Mountain in British Columbia got their triple chair by doing this and with shipping and installation it cost them roughly 1 million for a pretty much brand new lift.

You would be surprised at what can be ran for a auxiliary motor. We have engine from a Chevy cavilier as a auxiliary in one of our chairlifts.

Depends on the brand. For most you would probably need some power tools and stuff the get them off minimum, but a couple older lifts have the chairs woven into the cable, so your not getting them back.

A bunch of ski  areas do this. The chairs that were put in at Snowy Ranger (Southern WY) a few years ago all came from Steamboat and Winter Park.

I wonder who owns the land that these ski areas are on..

I thought that in North America they sold the used lifts? Like you still have to buy the lift from the hill, and then pay for the costs of shipping and installation. In the places in europe I listed, it is actual law that if a lift is placed down you can not change in any ways. No support towers mid stations or making longer is allowed. So when a lift isn't working out the way they would like it, it pretty much makes it useless. Thus why they give it away for free.

In North America you can buy used lifts from other ski hills. Whitewater in BC bought their triple chair from Vail, and their silverking chair from Whistler. They both had to actually pay for the lift itself though.

I still can't believe those guys in the czech republic managed to steal an entire lift. If I had to compile a list of stupidly difficult things to steal, a complete chairlift would be right at the top.


then again the israelis manage to keep having fighter jet engines stolen from air bases, so i guess anything is possible.


One of my best friends parents have an old double chair that was refurbished to be more comfortable/not shitty and old from Wildcat (I think) and if nothing else, it makes an awesome conversation piece.
