Alright guys, I need your help designing topsheets. Quickly.

Ok, so some friends of mine started up a ski company a couple years ago called Worth Skis.  They design the skis, Keith from Praxis handles the builds.  Awesome freakin skis, can't say enough great things about the people OR the sticks.  Now for the help part.   

New for next year is a full-carbon 109-waisted twin tip I helped design.  TOTALLY stoked on them.  Also have the option to custom design any topsheets I want, which is cool but hard.  Since they're going to be a touring ski, I wanted either a topo or a relief map as the base graphic.  This is what I submitted to their graphics guy as a baseline for what I wanted.

The only problem is that this is not high resolution enough to use for a topsheet.  Can one of you guys help me find a high enough res copy of this topo relief map to use for topsheets?  If you can, I will seriously owe you bigtime.  Like huge fucking time.  The skis are being pressed next week, so it's crunch time if I want these things to look like this. 

Any help at all will result in 10/10 and a real life beer and high five if we ever meet.

I went to the website listed at the bottom of the page in the link I posted and ended up finding an ultra high res version for $1.99.  This should be good, no?   (listed below)

Are you sure thats what you want? It looks like it wouldn't look very nice on skis, imo.

7000 px is probably not enough for a topsheet - that's only 23 inches printed at 300 DPI. It actually MIGHT not matter much if it's a base graphic, sub base graphics are pretty soft (not sharp) because there's so much ink diffusion in the process.

i would think that you would just want to scale the image to be the proper length of the ski. obviously, the higher the dpi, the better it will look, but it is gunna need to fit the ski as well. If the 7k side of the image was the length of the ski, which is going to be about 75 inches, it would be just under 100 dpi. If the image is cropped to fit the skis like in the OP sample, then even less.

250dpi is the standard for sublimation printing...

75 in at 250 dpi is 25615 px on the long end... its 112 mb. can upload it to google docs or dropbox to share it

I would go to a library and find a US atlas or a USGS survey map, and get someone you know with a photo scanner to scan it at some horrific resolution. That's probably your best bet for a topo map, and you will probably get something that's not super crazy and colorful (although maybe you want that)

Well eggbert sent me a sample that was 250dpi, and I sent it to my guy, who in turn said it wasn't high enough res- so he emailed a guy over at topocreator.com.  THAT guy told us no problem, we can give you as high res as your gear can handle for $10. 

So yeah, looks like we will just be ordering up an insanely high res version.  Oh, and yes- I do want the relief map.  I've seen a bunch of topo sheets before and they're cool but I want to do something different.  I love bright colors and having the green spine underfoot is very important to me ;) also there is some script being added for brand identification so it won't JUST be this. 

 I think these are going to look so awesome next to my bacon topsheet skis they made for me last year.

just wanted to bump this with the semi-final mockup, the only thing that will change is the script because it's sort of lost in all that green at the moment.   

freakin stoked! (the image is actually crystal clear and looks amazing in full size)

those look really sweet not gonna lie reading from the beginning i was skeptical how it would look at first but it really impressed me, good job! if only i could find someone to work with my topsheet designs i have come up with over the years

Thanks guys, glad you like them.  I am totally stoked on how they came out and I am pretty much counting down the seconds until I can fondle them, flex them and of course fap until I'm raw and bleeding.

Love how they turned out, you had a really great idea. The only thing I don't like is that writing, god it's awful. Stoked for you anyway, I would be proud to own those beasts.
