Heard some of that hotness (a truckload) was stolen on its way into Canada. Any word on this? A container of tracker bindings and that it might have been HAs?

I have no idea... I'm over in Austria and haven't heard of anything like this. If it's true, I guess that it at least validates that we've made a sweet binding if A/T nerds are hijacking trucks now.

193 Automatic mounting recommendations? I ski jibby sometimes, chargy others, but no switch powder and only the occasional spin. The recommended line is -10.5cm from true centre, so I'm thinking +3 which seems to be the centre of the camber.

I mounted my 193 Automatics -1cm from labeled "center", which is also 84cm from the tail. I've found that the labeled markings are little back from ideal, so what your describing sounds pretty good.

You guys did well. As I can't buy skis for this season, i'm looking for next season. I hear a jossi wells pro model? Any specs on that?

Tracker bindings ski super great, much like an alpine race binding. So in terms of downhill performance, they are a great match. Tracker bindings are a bit higher off the ski than a traditional 2-piece binding, but they are much lower (a full centimeter) than our competition. So, in the Alpine Touring frame-style binding market, the Tracker would be one of the best options if not the best option.

how alpine capable is the tracker? A lot of the time I might just be charging groomers, and not really doing any side/back country some days. Also how stable would it be hitty cliffs? still not 100% set on a touring binding. convince me, or should I stick to a pair of FKSs. Will be using caylors if that matters

I can't tell you much about it yet, except that it's not the Punx- pictured will be an additional ski to our park line up. Once we get closer to SIA, we can talk 13/14. Be patient, and I will reward you with info galore.

Compared to your FKS bindings, you will notice the Tracker being able to drive and leverage the ski more easily from edge to edge. This is due to its wider mounting position and wider platform in general (toe and heel pieces). In terms of downhill performance and power transfer, it will feel like an alpine race binding- which, besides being able to tour, was one of our main requirements. It will sit a little higher off the ski than your FKS but it still sits lower than any other frame-style A/T binding (Duke, Tour, Fritschi, etc). It's literally being used by our entire team without any complaints or issues, which is a great testament to the pounding it can take.

The toe piece can adjust to fit both rockered touring soles and alpine DIN soles WITHOUT changing the ramp angle of the boot. The underfoot frame, the heel tower, and connection between heel piece and plate on the ski are all metal, which makes for a super durable and powerful binding. The ski/tour mechanism cannot come undone while skiing, and in fact as you flex/bend the ski, the engagement system becomes more secure (not looser). And for those of you whose touring adventures involve a bit of rolling terrain (not just a steep skin up), or if you are in a sketchy area where stepping out of your binding is not an option, you don't need to step out of the binding to go from tour to ski mode.

What is the closest thing in this years lineup to the original Coax

These have been my goto hardpack skis since they can rail like a GS ski, but are starting to show wear and tear and need to be replaced. The Ritual sounds close but all this lightweight tittanium makes me question if its still able to charge

The Ritual will be the closest in terms of dimension and how they feel on hard snow. Titanium's main role isn't to reduce weight (actually it adds weight) but instead to provide a layer of dampening and stability. So because of the titanium backbone, the Ritual will actually feel smoother and more stable on hardsnow than the Coax. Will you be at SIA on-snow demo this year Chris? If you have the chance to get on a pair you'll be pretty impressed.

Some companies have looked at using titanium only in certain areas to provide stiffness which could then allow them to remove material from other areas. Having titanium underfoot does not necessarily translate to better edge hold tip to tail and just tossing titanium stringers in a softer wood core could actually end up with a totally different feel. Was a big fan of the stiffness, torsional rigidity and pop that the original Coax had end to end thanks to a great combination of woods, and wondering how these compared.

I guess my question didn't read quite as intended.

For sure good points. The titanium layer in the Ritual (103mm) and Alibi (98mm) looks like this:

It has a spine type shape that provides a smooth tip to tail flex, dampens vibration, and also beefs up the torsional rigidity.

I'm getting some PMs about the Tracker binding and what boot soles it is compatible with... The Tracker / Guardian binding is technically an alpine binding with a walk function (same as Marker Duke/Baron/Tour). It is certified to work with the Alpine ISO 5355 norm only, not the Touring Norm ISO 9523. This means that it is not certified to work with rockered, non-AFD equipped touring soles that have tech inserts.

Now, because the toe height of the binding can be adjusted it can fit rockered boot soles that are in accordance with ISO 9523. But simply because the boot fits in the binding, it is still not certifiable and you put yourself at risk.

What is certified: 1) solid soled "race boots" like FT Original or Atomic Redster, 2) 2-component replaceable DIN soles like FT Soul or Atomic Burner

What is not certified: fully rubber soles that lack an AFD section and have tech inserts like Dynafit Vulcan or Scarpa Mastrale.

Sadly, the 2 different norms (Alpine ISO 5355 and Touring ISO 9523) are not compatible with one another. So if a boot works for one, it does not work for the other. The 2 norms are simply too different, which is why most boots that are made in the future should have interchangeable soles that are norm specific. Hint, hint...

If Atomic can pull that off successfully (I don't doubt it for a second) then they should have a market leading edge for people that have 2 different setups and boots to correspond to each setup now. But when Atomic release a boot with those interchangeable soles, those people can stick with just the 1 boot!

(Hope that makes sense...)

how does the automatic compare to say the bent chetty or jj on pow/groomers? right now im reallllllly jelly of it and i just want you to make it sound even better so i know what ski i should get next year

Haha word. The Automatic has titanium strip (technically speaking they are called sprocket power boosters) in the rockered areas of the tip and tail :

These titanium strips help reduce chatter in the rockered areas in turn creating a smoother, more stable ride whether it be on hardpack, powder, or choppy mank.

The Automatic also has less tail rocker and more of a v-shape than the Bent Chetler which helps provide more support on landings and allow the ski smear just as well as it carves.

They will be more stable than Bents but not as stable as the Ritual. Think of the Ritual as a ripping all mountain ski that floats well in powder (103mm waist with tip to tail titanium) and think of the Automatic as a powder ski that skis well on groomers (117mm waist with titanium strips in select areas). Icy groomers weren't the main target for its design but when compared to other similar skis, the Automatic will ski super well on groomers.

Bringing my brand new Bent chetlers 192 to Kicking horse this season. Super stoked! Bought with ffg 16 before I knew i would go there so had to sell them. Ordered Guardians instead, got them cheaper than tracker. Same binding wrong brand ;)

Just worried that I'm too heavy for the bents? I'm like 95 kg. Do you think they will work, feel a bit soft but still stiffer than the JJ's I had, and taller.

Bummer about the binding, but that's sick man ;)

I would not worry about your weight on that ski. For starters, Chris is about 85 kilos, he's not exactly small. Secondly, the 192 is designed to be stiffer and burlier than the 183. So, even though you are a big guy it will be good for you.
