I say you need teamwork. Honestly if your just running and hiding with yourself or a small group of friends eventually your going to lose. Your going to have to round up all your friends and there friends and make a stand.
I would start gathering people as soon as the infestation started. Everyone needs a role, some people can cook, need builders to fortify the area and set traps for zombies. Need some people for medical attention, see if people have been infected and if so they need to be killed and removed from the premises immediately. Before there are 2 many zombies people need to raid all the grocery stores and gun shops and drug stores and get everything they can.
Hopefully you can use cellphones and landlines and the internet to get a hold of people as fast as possible before things start getting taken over. Try and organize a resistance before the zombies gain a strong hold. After that I guess you would have to set up convoys to get from town to town once communications were shut down. Hopefully be able to transport radios from place to place.
Find the best doctors and scientests in the world and get them behind your lines and fight for everything they need to hopefully fine a vaccine for the virus. Have daily checks of everyone to make sure they havn't caught the virus. Hopefully get gas masks in case it becomes airborn.
When the zombies come if they are just rabid humas(not smart just vicious and stumbling towards you) Make sure you make your shots count and don't waste to much ammo. Traps like broken car drops and stuff are great because you can just wind it back up after so it doesnt take fuel.
Also get solar panels as fast as possible because you wont be able to get much gas. Obviously get all the gas you can first as well as generators. Schools or power plants could be good places for strongholds because they already have large backup generators that can power you off the grid.
Obviously be careful who you let in but don't be afraid to gain numbers. You should still be able to grow food inside and on the rooftops. Rabid zombies will hopefully realize that your fortress is not providing a good healthy source of human brains and go elsewere alowing you more time to work on a cure/vacinne.
