In order for me to believe in the Antichrist I would have to believe in God and all that religion nonsense. Which I don't, so I do not believe in the Antichrist.

why are so many people on here so sure god does not exist? if you have ever taken a philosophy class, you will realize that there are actually some compelling arguments for the existence of god.

this is coming from a kid who was atheist, turned agnostic, turned believer. im not like a crazy fundamental christian i just believe in some sort of higher power.

Believing in some sort of higher power (like being a deist) is way different from believing in an intervening monotheistic authority (ie. christian god).

There may be a few compelling philosophical arguments for god but there is no scientific argument for him (that is why i don't acknowledge the existence of such a deity). So you can hypothesize and theorize about the existence of god but that does no one any good.

Also i am pretty sure that most modern philosophers do not acknowledge the existence of an intervening deity. Most are atheist and the ones that do mention god are usually using the word god as a metaphor like einstein did. A Spinoza god in a way. That is just my impression from my study in philosophy.

its much much easier to assume and "justify" that no god exists because people overlook so many things. but in my view, there are so many other inexplicable physical qualities of reality that the existence of a divine force / creator is just as plausible as the lack of one. we just don't truly know enough to make a definite point that a god does or does not exist. even stephen hawking admits that there is no way of us being sure of a god or creator, and he is one of the greatest theoretical physicists of our time.

The way I see it, the thought of an infinite expanse of space and the world we live in, the functions of physics and the "miracle of life" seem much more likely to have panned out the way they did if there was some controlling force. something to make it all happen. the thought of us just being here by an infinitesimally low chance and a miraculously perfect course of events is much harder to believe in than God. I guess I would rather live a life of faith than a life believing that we are here for no reason. im not bashing anyone's beliefs or trying to convert you, im just trying to explain why I believe. and I'm no fundamental religious extremist or bible thumper or any of that. but i do believe in a creator because it's so much more of a stretch to not believe in one.

you always run into the problem of who created the creator? if something complex is created by something more complex, you create a never-ending quest for the most complex thing. so you say now that god always existed? right? why not just say the universe always existed? you erase an unnecessary step (from a logic perspective) in your chain of reasoning.

its not a "belief"-thing, its a logical fallacy.

believe what you want, but i just wanted to point out that error, so others dont get swayed by a bad argument.

Very close but not the same, here is a sentence from the article I posted above: For a long time the Bornean big cat was thought to be the same as the clouded leopard but genetic results prove that it truly is its own species and should be treated accordingly.

Why do we have to know who or what created the universe? I certainly don't know what did, but I live on just fine. I know as humans we feel the need to figure these things out , but the only way to really figure it out would be to go back in time and see for our selfs so basically we may never know.

we know for a fact that the universe has not "always existed". Hubble used a cosmological application of the doppler effect to identify that celestial bodies are all moving, most of them away from us. this implies that the universe is always expanding in every dimension(in size, not matter). this also implies that at one point, all matter, a virtually infinite quantity, all existed in a single point. a point so small that it must literally have an "infinite density". thats the big bang. but the thought of all matter in the universe existing in an infinitesimal point is pretty hard to grasp. and i never said that god always existed. you just have to deal with the fact that we don't know everything and never will even come close. who created god, you ask? well, who created anything? who / what created the tiny point of infinitely dense matter that existed in a limitless void of.... nothing? the logical fallacy you speak of applies to everything. then we get into the beginning of time and all that theoretical shit. the truth is, there is no answer. to each their own. i feel that a belief in a higher power provides more reasoning than a belief in ... absolutely nothing. your argument seems harder to justify than mine. what, shit just all of a sudden existed? until we can achieve the speed of light or recreate the big bang, we can't even come close to providing a reason for the source of all existence. thats where a belief (although it seem be blind) comes in.

and the bit about me "swaying people with a bad argument". i explicitly said I was just offering an opinion. im not trying to sway you , i just want to offer a new perspective.

The Baga people live in the coastal area of Guinea. They can be subdivided into five groups of which Landouma is the largest, accounting for fifty percent of all ethnic Bagas. Apart from the various Baga languages, most of the Baga also speak the Mande language Susu, the regional trade language. Two Baga communities are known to have abandoned their language altogether in favour of Susu, namely the Sobané and Kaloum. The name Baga is derived from the phrase bae raka, “people of the seaside.”

Baga oral tradition is that the Baga people were driven from the interior to the coastal areas by competing tribes.

so you basically say its logic to think that the universe had to be created by god but you dont care where he came from?

because that is literally the only stance you could take that is logically coherent for your belief system.



to me, i have to think about the root. obviously its hard to imagine that something came from nothing, but its easy to see that when you try to go to the root, your argument is pretty empty.

i dont want to sound like i talk down to you or so. i respect your opinion if its what i said in my first sentence here. but anything else is not "logic", just a belief.

Are you fucking kidding me? There is only text about him. Tom Wallisch is more documented than Jesus Christ because at least he has pictures and video about him. Do you understand what I'm saying? You can't be truly sane and possibly believe that a collection of writing (the bible) 2000 years old (supposedly) is actually accurate. Have you ever played telephone in elementary school? It fails, every time, and it's only a few minutes long, not a few millennia. But seriously, I'm not going to try to sway you over to the atheist side of the fence, I just hope you live a happy life in faith. Good for you. I was raised Catholic until I learned a thing or two about physics and philosophy, and realized how absurd religion is in general. Humans are animals, with something more called emotion, but nothing more, and I think it's time we get over ourselves and mentally evolve. Get with the times.

i'm with this, personally. i do not believe in a god because not only did i not grow up with church in my life, i just don't believe i need a diety to answer questions about how the universe began. if someone could tell me how, i'd be interested, but honestly, i could care less. i'd rather worry about how i can live in the world, and one day, change it somehow for the better, than how, and more prevalently, why we are here in the universe. I also think religion can sometimes cause more problems than it solves. do NOT get me wrong: I know religious people and religious groups who are great people and do some great things. I am saying in GENERAL, religion has caused a lot of tension and violence in the world, and to me anyway, it's not worth it.

just an example, that there are a lot of "behind the scenes" scenarios that would negate any reason to live for a lot of people

no thats what im saying. I'm not trying to prove that there is a god. thats obviously just as impossible to prove as where existence came from in the first place. seeing as there is no logically coherent explanation for it all, God as a higher power makes just as much sense as anything else.

i guess thats my point in a nutshell. it may seem ridiculous or stupid to a lot of people because it is impossible to prove but so is any other theory. seeing as we can't get to the root of it all, it appears that there must be some inexplicable factor controlling it all that we simply cannot comprehend. thats as close to a root as I can figure. and the way I see it, that makes my "argument" less empty than yours because mine at least leads to a speculation, or the next step towards a root.

i guess when all is said and done, it's an unsolvable problem that is left to each individual to try to reason with. my reasoning is different than yours and i totally do see where you're coming from. and I totally do see why you dont agree with me. thats the beauty of it all in a way, we each can see things our own way and have our own opinion, and neither of us can entirely prove the other wrong.
