alright so you guys ready to hear some crazy shit? so last night my mom drove to go pick up my sister at a friends about an hour away from where i live. So shes driving and its relatively mild weather, and she wasnt bookin or anything, its a subaru outback. anyways, we have a rocket box on the top for skis and poles and gear and everything, in the middle of nowhere the top of the rocket box rips clean off. my mom gets home at around 10 or so, says she counted the skis, theyre all there, so all i say is "alright thats good, but it sucks that the box got fucked up." think nothing of it and go to bed. i wake up at 6 in the morning and hear my mom telling this to her friend on the phone. "yeah, ethans new K2's flew out....idont know, i must have missed it." needless to say i kind of flipped shit. i have been waiting since august when i bought them to try em out, and got em mounted with new bindings and everything. We went looking for the skis, and found one, totally fine, the other ones still gone. So homeowners insurance re-imbursed us for $800. fuck yeah right? wrong. theres a $500 deductible. has anyone else had there rocket box rip clean off?
Except is sounds like his mom was going over the recommended max speed so it's not their fault. I think most say you shouldn't go more than 75 or something.
it was actually a THULE, and i dont get it, because we've had it for like 5 years or so? not really any wear or tear apart from regular weather damage, i just dont understand why it decided to rip clean off out of nowhere
uuuum because they werent going skiing? normal people tend to leave valuables in their house instead of in a flimsy plastic shell on the street that a 1st grader could break into.
Hmm...I've never had that happen growing up when we used the rocket box but good luck. Did you check the area where the box top came off and such? Idk though, I guess it's pretty hard to search the whole trip distance if you don't know where.
I just leave my skis in the back of my truck, but I put a lockable camper shell on in the winter when it's not a work truck so it works.
yeah but i go everyday, and its a real pain in the ass to take em out and put em in every day, i just lock the box at night and unlock at the mountain the next morning
ur telling me that you are so lazy that you cant take your brand new skis in and out of the thule....theres ur problem god is getting back at you for being a lazy dumbass
no im not telling u im a lazy fuck. im telling you its a total bitch to take them out of the thule every damn day of the season if i never have a problem with the thing. your move fuck face
you must have a rough life. do you park like 1/4 mile away from your house and have to run a gauntlet of machine gun fire and starving grizzly bears just to get to your house?
or is it more like you park in your driveway 5 feet from your garage, and dont feel like spending the extra 15 seconds to unlock the box, pull your skis out and then re-lock the box?
regardless, its a shitty situation that could have just as easily happened on the ay to the mountain.
show some respect? seriously? no one died. no one is sick. this isnt a tradgedy. its just a shitty circumstance(that he could have prevented easily). The longer he keeps bumping his thread, the greater the likelyhood hate will come his way.
Thats rough bro! I got my brand new three time used skis stolen last year and insurance wouldn't do fuck all about it. Keep the chin up and smile! Hopefully it'll all work out
I haul my skis out of my truck every day after skiing. Yeah, it's kinda a pain in the ass, but I don't have to worry about somebody stealing them. Sometimes I take two pairs of skis and have to MAKE A SECOND TRIP!!!! OH THE NOES!!!
Are you going to continue storing your skis on top of the car after this?
Sorry you lost a ski. Awfully expensive way to learn a lesson.
first off- you bought 3 pairs of the same boot so you could try them all on, proving that you are not poor.
second- you dont live alone, and wouldn't have to pay for a garage
third- whoever put the box on must have been a dumbass, the only way it could have flown off and been able to be put back on properly, is if it wasn't tight enough, and unscrewed
I was going to comment in this yesterday but didn't. Today at work another box came in with a torn off lid. As someone who has worked in the industry for quite a long time I can give you three pieces of advice:
1.Buy a Thule or an Inno
2. Don't buy a yakima
3.If you buy a yakima, don't get the skybox 18 or 21 unless you get the pro version.
Yakima makes a decent product, but their 18 and 21 cubic foot boxes are just not built well enough for their size and the amount of air they displace.
