Shin bang

i got some full tilt drop kicks fitted in a shop and heat moulded been wearing them for around 15 hours of use, and still get back shin bang and toe bang, i know i land back seat but one of the main reasons i bought them (other than fitting) is that the are meant to stop both of these, any suggestions

No boot "prevents" shinbang. You need to know that not only 1 thing causes it. Examine this list:

-not having a footbed
-boot is wrong size (usually too big than too small)
-continually landing backseat
-having a gap between the tongue of the boot and your shin, either because you have chicken legs or simply because the tongue just doesn't match up to your leg
-boots that are too soft for you
-boots that are too stiff for you
-boots that are too low on your leg

so, if you do the opposite of what I just wrote, shinbang is most likely not going to happen to you. As you can tell, a properly fit boot is your best bet against getting shinbang.

cheers man think i need to tighten them up a bit more and spend more time putting them on removing the gap in front of my shin, atomic is pretty sick, i know rick the uk team manger, would ride atomic but to common where i ski beacuse of a lot of people there are on the uk team, and like to be a bit more individual

I was having a minor shin bang problem so I just tightened the fuck out of my ankle/shin buckles and didn't do up my foot buckles too tight to help with circulation and it works really well. I've also heard of people taping their shins to close the gap and keep their shins in constant contact with the tongue of their boots.

Yeah besides not landing backseat.....tighten them up real good...usually helps for me

Its worth saying that dome riding is harder on your feet then mountain skiing as your feet never get a break as your always stood up.

If you did not get them with a footbed, make this your first stop. If you can get up to castleford, get them at the ellis brigham there. That should help with the toes somewhat and also maybe the shin bang.

To be honest though it sounds like you got them because there full tilts rather then because its the right boot for you. Take them and get them asessed and see if they actually fit you.

looks like shin bang has already been covered. toebang happens when your ankles arent locked into your boot properly allowing your foot to slide forward. solution, tighten those boots up. if that doesnt work your boots might not be fitted right. That being said i have never ridden with full tilts but i doubt they are that much different than other boots.

So I've got really skinny legs so my front of my leg doesn't come in contact with the tongue. Any solutions?

^ that can somtimes be the case but more often then not its that the medial arch of the foot is not suported so under weight the arch can collaspe extending the foot into the front of the boot. Landing backseat can make this worse but usally a well made custom footbed can mainly solve the problem of toe bang.

That comment was for the post above yours. If you have skinny legs take your boots to a shop. There are things called tounge eliminators which may help you may also need foam acting as spoilers. Expect to pay about $50-100. If you want a footbed $150-250.

bro do u read, i went to a shop tried on loads of boots (atomic, dabello, full tilt, salomon, nordica) both the fitter and i agreed these were the best fit i also had footbeds done,i think i just need to tighten up my boots a bit more

think booster straps just allow you to tighten the very top of your boot where the stock strap is alot tighter

This, Im pretty skinny so it only helps to a certain extent. I also went to multiple shops and most of them said to just work on your landings (that is if you checked your boot fits and all that, which I have). I get shin bang to the point where I cant ski the rest of the day, so i DEF need to work on my landings. I went to VT for the first time last year for a couple days and couldnt ski the last day, it was that bad.

Just got done skiing today and had hardly any shin bang at all on the hill. I took an ace bandage and wrapped it around my leg that gets the worst shin bang in hope that it would cut some of the distance between my shin and the tongue of the boot. It worked really well! Definitely try it sometime. Only bad thing, my shins are still aching when ever they touch something but at least it wasn't on the hill.

I also have dkicks and i got them heat molded i dont expeirnce (i cant spelll) shin bahng but i do get toe bang

You may have agreed they were the most comfy but clearly there not fitting to well or you would not be having problems. What footbeds did you buy? was it a sidas?

Your best bet is take them to a really good boot shop, like cas ellis brig and have those boots fitted. It could just be that there new and your landing backseat alot but they may aslo be fitted badly so rather then trying to get fitted here, go to a good shop and you will know for sure.

Or take them to where you got them fitted and explain your issues, they should refit them for free, but possibly try a better shop (especially if it was the snow and rock at hemmel)

Make sure you have a really good footbed- this is your #1 assurance against getting toe bang. Human feet are always more flexible than the ski boot they are in. As your arches collapse, your foot splays out and elongates (my foot expands an entire size). In street shoes you don't feel this since the fabric is flexible. But in a ski boot, if your foot elongates even a half size it will be super noticeable. So, get a footbed. A footbed will prevent your arches from collapsing and thus keep your foot the same length, not allowing it to slam into the front of the boot.

Adding gel or rubber to the toe box doesn't solve the problem, it only band-aids it. Get a footbed and treat the problem at its source.

yes footbed is a good idea. i was having this problem with my spk's last year and it was because i was wearing them loose. just tighten them up so your shin is always has pressure on the front and back of the boot. then your boot will flex with your leg instead of your leg slamming into it.

there isnt really any distance btwn my shin and tongue, I tighten it up bretty good + I use booster straps. But I will def try the ace bandage thing

Honestly if you're getting that bad of shin bang try investing in a stiffer tongue (#6 at least) and booster straps and stick to rails for a week and let your shins recuperate. I honestly don't know why fulltilt even makes their flex #4 tongue as most decent park skiers are going to want a stiffer boot??? Anyways for 80 dollars (30 for booster and 50 for new tongue) you can go from all pain to afterbang once those shins heal up

This is what helps me, other people who disagree I could really care less, because what I do helps me tremendously with shin bang and toe bang. I have these little insoles on the bottom of my full tilt liners, these raise my heel lifting my foot up and forward a bit more. This helps because i have some room behind my shins to lean back, it helps me, maybe you should try it, hope this helped a little.

Bumping this thread because I have some new Tecnica boots this season and I'm getting shin bang so bad. By the end of the night my ankles are swollen red because of it, and it hurts so bad.
Is it worth it to invest in Full Tilts and get them fitted?

I'm really stuck with swollen ankles though because I don't have any money, and I'm literally losing money on my job that I have so I'm going to have to quit that pretty soon anyways. I'm basically stuck for this season. Well guys hopefully I don't develop some serious issues more than extreme pain. Wish me luck.

just send everything way fatter and it will go away, but if not then try minimizing the shin gap, i cut up a beer coozie and put it on my shin then tightened my boots, works great and costs about $2.00

Shin bang is caused by back pressure on your shins...from either skiing or landing in the back seat. micro fractures in the tibia happen and then putting pressure on the shin/tibia hurts...get out of the back seat to end the problem.
