Buying/Selling with paypal

So seeing as too many people are getting scammed, and no one has taken the time to actually read paypal policy

I will tell all

1) do not send money as a gift as in you cannot file a claim if you get scammed, it is better to pay the 3%.
2) paypal only chagres a fee if you do not have money in your account and it is taken out of your bank or CC, then there is a 3% fee which is charged to the seller. If I have $100 in my paypal and I buy a say goggles for $75 then there is no need to add the 3% becasue I have the money in my account.
3) If you do send money as a gift and you do not have money in you account then YOU are charged the 3%
4) if you belive you are getting scammed file a claim as soon as possible, last time I checked it was 45 days after that you are SOL. Even if you file a claim there is still a chance that you WILL NOT get your money back
5) You would reather file a claim ASAP and make the seller flipout on you rather then lose your money.


If you are a Seller then there is no need to not ship within a week. If you do not have something on hand then do not sell.

I think that is all, feel free to correct me if I am wrong or feel free to add more

Hoff@man bought a Larage amount of gear from me ($$) said he was worried, payed the extra 3% and boom no worries, got his gear. I got my cash, it was a winwin

wasn't worried because of theclaps legitness...which he is more then legit, but more because of usps sucking at what they do and losing stuff/damage. If you are worried about stuff getting lost and or getting scammed just spend the extra money to have piece of mind. Def helps with all the scamming callout threads popping up.

GET A TRACKING NUMBER
its only 80 cents, helps with paypal disputes, and gives buyer peace of mind

Shipping Over the Boarder, get insurance. Its alot better then refunding a kid after the package is lost.

Shipping also takes time over the boarder, I have sent things that have taken days to 3 months.

USPS does not track out of the country, Insurance is key

get personal information from the seller before you send him any sort of money.
(full name, address, phone number, ect.)

never send money in more than one payment, even if you want to send the other half after you get the item. for some odd reason, paypal disallows you to open disputes and claims if money was sent in more than one payment, or you can't open a dispute on both of them.

also, if you are selling make sure to get a tracking number. USPS won't do it on international shipping but i believe UPS and Fedex will, just ask. Buyers should also request this.

AHAhAHA, only reason I asked people to send money as a gift is because of the fees. But what I know noticed when I recently sent money to brosif is even you do send money as a gift internationally, there will still be charges.

Thanks for the info about paypal, I did not know most of that! From a Canadian experience, I always request USPS. They do track internationally and historically for me anyway, have the lowest duty/brokerage fees.

Ex: Bought pivot 18's for 300$ shipped USPS from cali, arrived in one and a half weeks no duty charges and everything was filed honestly. A few weeks later bought Salomon El Dictators for 450$ shipped UPS from denver, took 3 weeks and I got nailed with 150$ duty/brokerage a month after the skis arrived. Bummer.

Most people do not get insurance, I always do

it depends on how the seller marks the package.

if it's marked as a "gift" you shouldn't be charged duty and fees, if it's marked as "merchandise" you will get charged.

living in germany and buying/selling alot. i have noticed that when i send as a gift i DO NOT get charged anything. not sure why.

and i normally get insurace on something if its over 75 doll hairs

While obviously this is all very important/good info so that scamming is prevented, everyone really should just respect the community and everyone a part of it and keep B/S/T a useful and safe tool to get things we all need
