Knee Injury / Jumpers knee

Since i started doing tricks on the slopes, witch was last year ( misty 5 and rodeo 5 and couple of spins) ive had this pain in both my knees. Its unbearable, and ruins my ski and trampoline season. Wondering if anyone else has what my doctor called "Jumpers Knee" Witch is common in the age between 13 - 19.

Google it.

Its just painfull, but cant get any worse.And you cant do anything to fix it. it will automatically disappear at the age of 17 - 19. Doctor said this is extremely common in gymnastics, football, volleyball and other sports. I dont really know anyone with these, so thats why im asking NS.

i think he just means that once you have knee pain it usually doesn't just magically disappear. I landed on my knee wrong in March and thought for sure i tore something in my knee, got an MRI and they said it came back fine. I must have just tweaked it super hard. It's been close to 6 months and my knee still isn't to 100%. I'm also not very good at taking it easy on it, but I'd suggest swimming, this is the best way to move your knee without putting much stress on it. Stay optimistic i think it's a good thing, but it wouldn't hurt to try and strengthen and stretch it in the meantime

I had exactly what you're talking about i'm pretty sure but it is only in one of my knees. I competed in gymnastics for about 5 years and every couple of weeks right underneath my knee cap there would be a sharp pain when i landed. Mine doesn't sound quite as bad as yours but mine seems to haved diminished since i stopped doing gymnastics. now i only get it every couple of months. What I liked to do when the symptons did appear was wear a brace such as this one http://www.return2fitness.net/Supports_and_braces/Knee_Braces/MuellerMaxKneeStrap

A lot of the times it released the stress on my knee.

Appreciate positive vibes, alot. I pretty much just quoted my doctor in what i said at my thread description. He diagnosed me with a special, yet common injury, witch is actually an infection somewhere in your knee. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patellar_tendinitis - Allso known as the Jumpers Knee. I never fell and broke something, its just that it hurts, even stomping stuff. Especially those 270s of those rails. It allso hurts swimming ( only after jumping trampoline tho ) and running. Bought some knee supports, witch i bring to public trampoline practices. And, i even went to summerskiing camp, but there my knee allmost didnt hurt. Too unpredictible and complicated for me to understand.

Knee pain doesn't just go away. There are a lot of things you can do to make it better though - strength, low impact exercise, plyometrics, ect. I've had knee pain since I was about 13, I'm 22 now, and have constant jumper's knee and micro meniscus tears that aren't going to go away.

Thanks champ! Alltho that link didnt work, im pretty sure what your talking about. im training kind of gymnastics at trampolines only tho, and i wear something like www.tinyurl.com/3ptqshl .. Witch eases the pain. I try to ignore it while skiing and jumping, witch my doctor said was fine, cause it appearantly cant get any worse. Thanks!

Sorry about the link try just copying and pasting the url and the brace i wear is similar to the one you showed but a little more substantial and not as long. is the pain you have similar to how i described mine?

Defineatly the same pain. Stings right beneath the kneecap. sitting on a bench i cant stretch my leg completely out without collapsing my entire knee.

Didn't Jossi Wells used to have this or something similar? So he mostly had to land switch?
If so it didn't seem to hurt his skiing too badly in the long run

Yes, and I think he's had to take some time off because of it.

You can get an infrapatellar strap and take pain killers, but the only way to let it heal is rest.

It is really important to focus on the downward motion on the squat.

Stretching is really important. Look up 'foam rolling on google.

Kinesio tape is good.

Rest and ice after any exercise is important. Don't do too much to soon.

I used to have this back in the day. It whent away at about 18 for me, i had surgery before it disappeared though to have compressed cotton balls stuffed in-between my knee joints.

Thanks all, means alot. Ill defineatly do what it takes. BUt when you say rest, do you just mean, dont ski or jump or similar? What am i supposed to do in the winter?

handrail knee is a lot worse. it breaks your kneecap into a bunch of little pieces and requires surgery to repair...

What kind of ice do you mean, like anything cold like, a deep frozen bag of peas, or special frozen bags from sports stores? probably wont matter.

Yea knee pain doesn't just go away. I dislocated my knee early December and I still can't bend it all the way without extreme pain.

All I can say is, sucks that you have this. You really only have 2 choices: risk the great possibility of a severe injury, or stop hitting jumps.

Dont ever talk to a GP about a sport related problem, they dont help.

Go see a physiotherapist, I bet they'll have your knees feeling great in no time.

I used to really have trouble skiing until the end of a day because my knees just kiiiiilled, like to the point of being to stiff-legged to even turn well. It was terrible, a GP told me I couldnt do anything about it, and a physiotherapist fixed it in 2 weeks.
