So I wanted to make one official thread to discuss all things raw denim. I'm sure once Jiberish comes out with a pair everyon is going to want to know more about raw denim and post progress pictures. So let me start by explaining what raw denim / dry denim / selvedge denim is.
Raw Denim and Dry Denim mean the same thing. They refer to cotton material that is dyed with indigo and NOT chemically treated to hold its color in any way. This is the way that jeans were made by companies like Levis 100 years ago before "Pre-distressed" Jeans were ever thought to be cool. The neat thing about these jeans is that when you wear them, the indigo will rub off on the creases and folds and giving the jeans that worn out faded look. Companies now will pre-distress their jeans to give them this kind of appearance and then chemically treat them to prevent fading afterwards.
Selvedge (Selvage) denim refers to "Self Edge" Denim. Selvedge denim is denim that is woven using a 3 yard loom which gives the edge of the fabric a nice finished look to it. Most companies now use a 6 yard loom which is more efficient because you can get 2 pairs of jean out of a section of fabric, however you lose the nice finished edge.
There's a lot more info about the types of denim on:

So why is it so cool?
This is a picture of APC's when you buy them:
And this is my pair after being worn for a year:
I'm hoping that the Jiberish raw's that come out this fall will be good quality and produce some nice fades. Everyone feel free to post up any Raw denim you have. Please dont' ruin this thread with comments about why old navy jeans are better or why it's dumb to spend a lot on jeans. Thanks guys.
