147 pages in the 2010-11 Thread. Here start's next season.

Now the season's over, Boston has the cup for the summer, but it's all up for grabs come autumn. Bump it through the slow summer months as transactions occur

Oh, and to start some tradition: LOL @ Anaheim.

Can we please end this? It was a low hit, but it's not like he took out the knee or something... I remember Hamhuis dishing out a similar hit during the finals last year in the neutral zone... Yeah, he should have hit him shoulder-shoulder, and yes it was clipping - but I don't feel like it was some scumbag move with downright intent to injure. A 5 min major was awarded. I feel like that's acceptable.

..dude has a concussion as a result from being flipped. Not a blown knee as a result of a slewfoot or something.

Also, That penalty shot last night was fucking nerve racking for some reason. I still can't believe conklin, someone whos only faced one before that, stopped it.

and regarding those other hits, marchand had the puck and was hip checked, in this instance it wasnt really a hip check, he ducked a hit. pussied out of taking it essentially. that puts the player making the hit in a very vulnerable position.

i used to do it when i played hockey because i was a small yappy player and people would take runs at me. i made a guy knock himself out from going headfirst into the boards, it was a shitty play but i learned to sack up and take hits, im sure marchand can too.

No, I just mean end the whole Boston v Vancouver BS. I'm sick of hearing about a game that happened 4 days ago or anything that had to do with it and the homerism involved from both sides.

Patrick Sharp is out for a month. That's bad news for Chicago.

you obviously watch very little hockey, someone made a very good point a few posts ago.

The bruins play dirty hockey, so much dirt you cant catch all of it. what does this do? makes the other team retaliate with dirt play and they get caught. its been working for the for a while, its a good way to play for them, it works... still dirtier play than any other team in the league.

Marchand suspended five games, which is the maximum for a phone hearing. I was expecting 3, but the "repeat offender" thing clearly upped it a bit. I don't object to that. I imagine Salo will be out for longer than 5 games - personally I have my fingers crossed that the concussion isn't so severe as to be career-threatening. Dude was playing outstanding hockey for us this year.

The context demonstrates otherwise. The 30 seconds before the hit involved a collision along the boards when Salo pinched to keep the puck in successfully, at which point Marchand punched him in the back of the head. It being the PP, Salo doesn't get involved but instead goes back to the point / high slot so that he can take a one timer if needed. Marchand follows him there and punches him in the back of the head AGAIN. Again, Salo doesn't respond. The puck ends up getting to the half boards, and as he did a few seconds earlier, Salo pinches, apparently hoping to keep the puck in. Marchand goes for the puck, looks like he's going to play it and at the last second, submarines Salo. 

Given the context, and Marchand's history, you'll forgive a biased observer like myself his skepticism when Marchand says he was just trying to protect himself from an inevitable illegal hit from the well-known menace that is Sami Salo.

Every team plays dirty to a certain extent, its easy to get butthurt when a team wins a lot especially when they beat your team which is happening with the bruins a lot because they are on a hot streak.

Most people end up blaming and whining about the refs or the other teams dirty playing as a fall back. Its a natural reaction and you can see examples of it on here every time there's a big game going on. Every fan does it, I've done it plenty of times and so have every single one of you if you've been a fan of your team for longer than a day.

The amount of people whining and acting incredibly condescending thinking they have a completely unbias opinion and know more than everyone else is ridiculous.

This comment obviously wasnt aimed directly at PhaedeD I'm just saying that people should take a step back and think about their own bias before they make the common accusation of "you obviously watch very little hockey" or "youre a fucking idiot."

I love the honest discussions about games, players and other topics on here but this thread just gets way too clustered with senseless arguing and people thinking their opinions are fact.

i never said all teams play clean, none do. The bruins just play a far dirtier game and might not get away with it the whole time but it does play out in there advantage because you cant catch everything going on, on the ice with a few refs it just doesnt work. the more shit you start on the ice the more shit thats going to continue throughout a game, just hope the other team gets caught more than you. good thing for them this game plan has been working out for the bruins, im not hating all they are a good team.. very good team and have found an exploit in the system and thats how you win.

btw the bruins still play a bit dirtier than majority of the other teams :)

PK Subban may be the dirtiest player in the league and if not he is top 3.

One of my biggest pet peeves right now in the NHL, is that players and their teammates can no longer take a clean hit without retaliating or taunting the player that delivered the hit.
I'm not talking about the Marchand hit, I'm just throwing something that's been a in my mind for a little while..

no I mean I agree, I am a hockey player and a hockey lover. yes, the Pens are my team but I like hockey for hockey. I think this is where the Bruins are standing taller than anyone and why they will continue to win. They are FAR more aggressive than 98% of teams in the league. They have built a team that centers around physical play, the other parts of the game just flow in from there. When you put bodies on people all game and not fuckin pussy shit im talking real checks all game, its going to give you a lot more openings and the bruins are using that to score tons of goals. For instance as I said im a Pens fan, Matt Cooke used to be a dirty player hard hitting SOB. Sometimes his hits were clean sometimes not doesnt matter people would not go down into the boards with him or try and run the puck by him. Everyone knows hes a softy now so It doesnt matter. The whole Bruins team has this, its like people play scared of them. I fucking hate the fact that the Penguins wont get physical and that most of the other teams in the league wont get physical.

Physicality seems to be winning games not this finesse garbage with dont get me wrong I love seeing that but physical play will open up your ability to finesse the fuck out of whatever because the other team will be too busy adjusting their jockstraps all game from getting their asses laid out. Sure the Pens have some serious injury issues to deal with but they havent been physical in 4 years and to me that tells me something. We won games being physical and we had less injuries playing physical...

Shannahan breaks it down very eloquently, and then suspends appropriately. I really like the extended clip showing the lead up to the hit....if you can't see intent from that you're a homer.

actually if you watch the clip he hits the upper thigh closer to the hip. Thats a hipcheck not clipping....so sorry but we do no something about hockey

This city still has always had a rich and dedicated following when it comes to the b's...but just like an city when success hits your going to get a shit ton of band wagon fans that make the dedicated fans look bad

I was surprised by 5 games, I was expecting around 3 games..but given his reputation I can understand shanny laying down the law

lol @ the idiots complaining about boston players being dirty (aside from marchmont..) please watch tonights game and write down every time the "bruins play dirty hockey, so much dirt you cant catch all of it" I would love to see what some kids on here think is dirty...this is hockey you pussies its a physical game and the bruins play a very aggressive, physical style...if you dont like it go watch soccer it seems much more suited to your style

literally blind with bias.

once again a hip check would have implied salo had the puck. marchand ducked a hit, and got very low doing so. just watch the shanahan clip again and put your bias aside for a second, he says it perfectly and the lead up clip really showcases what happens

Not to mention he didn't use his hip to throw the check. This isn't even a conversation worth having with anyone who says "yeah good hip check" because if you can't see the difference it's just not going to happen.

Clean was the keyword there. However in a few instances I think there should be some relaxation for clean hits depending who hit to, malicious intent, or ithe very sketchy subjective hits where it looked different than it really was.

Not sure how there have been two penalty shots in this game let alone one. However, I'm perfectly content with the outcome. Justice for sean thornton after he gets called for an illegal hit to the head without making contact with one.

That was Thornton, who is a FORWARD who plays on the fourth line, much different then a defenseman
