Hahahha... hey everyone.

So you might notice that we added the like button to Newschoolers.

For me, we did this because I have gotten really frustrated with people overcoming us in the social media world... because lets face it... newschoolers IS social media.

Anyways, if you're a facebook user please do your best to click like and share stuff you think is cool.

Together, we can take over the world of ski social media.

Seriously, add some features so we can flesh out our profiles a bit more. Id love to have my pictures and videos better displayed, as well as a pimp blog section... kinda everything but on one page instead of the many. And the like system should be a NS system, not facebook... we have profiles, display our pictures and likes via that.

Hmmmmm.... care to go into a bit more detail?

Pics/vids will all be rolled into a big update with that... if it ever launches.

Blogs... well personally I don't think there's a ton wrong with blogs other than it basically doesn't go anywhere. If the blogs actually made it to news if they were super rad that would probably give a lot more meaning... maybe categories?

NS like system - again... check. Added to the development queue. This is a very good idea.

Admittedly the FB like button was just a few lines of code and super easy to implement. I was starting to feel social media envy as all these other total bullshit web properties were pwning us making it seem like they're bigger than we are.

The funny fact about social media - its mostly older folk that do it. So in skiing, the young people are on NS, whereas the old people (marketing people) are on twitter and facebook talking to each other about marketing to the youth.

Drives me fucking batty.

However, you're right. We'll look into that. The pages are tagged weird.

Admittedly we've never really done a ton of SEO on Newschoolers... this place has always grown so well organically we've never messed around with all this crazy website shit that other people obsess over.

NooOoOooo. Please keep facecrap off of NS. I come on here to get away from facebook, not to be linked in with it. It's only going to attract more trolls.

I do agree that there should be an in-NS like button though. maybe have a separate forum for highly rated threads? kind of like the most popular videos but for threads or something. unfortunately, i don't know how to avoid people whoring out "like my thread for karma" posts.

I did a bit of rating for Google SEO a few years back and I can tell you: if you want to cheat for hits, just hide "Skiing, Tom Wallisch, Tanner Hall, Simon Dumont" etc. with colors matching the background under the copyright claims, with a font of 0,1.

I imagine it would help even more than nowadays, haha.

Yeah, but raters, like I was, work to eliminate these kinds of tactics. However, it was mostly done with secondary sites, for example, if you looked for "Salomon boots", then we made sure that the Top 10 links would be relevant and search for hidden code, keywords, snail tactics and re-routes and weed them out.

In this case, searching "skiing" does not give Newschoolers even on the first page, yet with a a little hidden words and the amount of traffic the site gets it would slowly climb up and as it is actually related to skiing (not a useless search result) it would probably not be meddled with.

as k-rob mentioned, i dont want the world to see on my fb what ns threads i like.

im all for the "like button" system, but it should directly associated with ns and nothing else. you should be able to "like" a thread, or "like" someone's post, and somehow be able to keep track of those "likes" through your profile or my threads.

sort of. i think the whole youtube/facebook liking idea is stupid. if you like the posts somebody makes, take note and give them karma if they do it consistently. no need to "like" every damn post that has the slightest bit of intelligence.

Not true. On Grasscity forums (I know, OLOLOL GRASSCITY SMOKE WEED URRDAY) they have a like system, and NObody does that.

However, it's really effective at eliminating stupid posts like "LOLOL" "This" and "Hhahah!"

It's way easier for people to just click like instead of making retarded posts. People on YouTube just whore for likes so their comment stays at the very top for a loong time and they look like Joe Cool.
