What do you guys think? I'd say the amount of improvements is pretty meh. I like the swivel LCD, but if I really wanted that I would just buy a 60D.

Ya I wouldn't even want the swivel screen honestly. Looks like people will just be able to grab a T2i for a great deal soon, that doesn't look like it's worth it.

yeah, i havent really had any issues with the t2i that need to be addressed though, except maybe a better in-audio AF or better low-light, but that would be expensive

yea i love my T2i. i guess i would like to have the swivel LCD, and some in-camera audio controls. i'm too scared to magic lantern my camera

The only things I like about it are that it's slightly bigger and thus easier to hold.

One thing I really don't like about the rebel series is that they're so small and flimsy. Not nice to hold, and it looks like that with the upgrade it's gonna be much better.

The other thing that's absolutely kick-ass is the built in wireless flash support for multiple flashes. That's so nice.
Other than that I don't really care for anything of the upgrades.
I'd really like a DSLR I can shoot video with and the t2i seems a good option (especially because the price will drop after the t3i's release), it's just that I don't like the size of it, one of the reason's I bought a xxD instead of a rebel.
Oh well, I'm first gonna invest in more glass before upgrading my body.

I agree with this mostly. The navigation of this camera does not compare to the 7D and 60D, but the magic lantern plugin makes it the most robust. Canon should be releasing these firmware updates, not leaving it to a third party. They will get passed up if they don't start taking this more seriously.

yes. if canon made an update equivalent to magic lantern, i would download/even buy that in an instant. would much rather not void my warranty with third party stuff.

Look at it from their standpoint, they don't have to do the work in programing anything, plus now they don't have to fulfill any of your guys' warranties! Win Win.

true. but why not put a little time into developing some firmware, and honestly magic lantern can't be very hard to replicate, then sell it at a high price? they would make bank if they sold it for $50 per download, and I would pay that.

the warranty thing is a good point though. i don't know which would benefit them more.

No real update for video from what I understand. They will update every now and then for some silly little bug, but there is no indication we will get any of the audio meters, auto gain kill, etc. that we all want for video. It is kind of frustrating, but it is the way it is. When one of the companies comes out and starts to address video more seriously it will help kick everyone in the ass. I can't wait for that.

to my knowladge the 7D doesn't even do that, they would probabley put that feature in an upgrade to that camera first. if i ever get a lot of money i may have to get a t2i, that would be a great learning experience.

You can't just make it 1080p60p. You need the right processor that can process that large of a chip, at 1080p at 60p. Right now, their processors can do 1080p30p, the bitrate of 60p with that sensor is twice of the 30p.

Hopefully the t2i is gonna drop a hefty bit when the t3i is released! And hopefully a lot of nerds will drop their t2i and get a t3i, which will flood the market with second-hand t2i's...hopefully!

probably, but not necessarily. the 5D doesn't even shoot 720p60p. granted, that's a little different because it's full frame, but you know what i'm saying.

I just got the t2i and im not really bummed.

Interaction with canon speedlights is cool, but lets be honest, if you are buying a rebel you probably cant afford canon lights, myself included. ebay transceivers are dirt cheap now anyways


really the only cool thing is the crop zoom feature. turning your 18-55 into a telephoto by just using a 1080x1440 square in the middle is cool.


i still think the lcd screen is just something else to break

Canon needs to quit wasting everyone's time and work on firmware updates to the 7D instead of releasing new models with insignificant "upgrades."

Swivel screens are horrible; Canon is spending all their money adding useless soccer-mom features and not fixing problems with their better cameras.

t2i is still the best budget Canon for video. In fact, if I were to do it over again, I would get a t2i instead of a 7D because then I would have magic lantern. And I only shoot native ISO's anyway, so I would have nothing to lose.

ahhh, t3i doesn't make me want to upgrade one bit. I wouldn't even upgrade to the 7D anymore. I'm so used to the T2i for video and know what I'm doing with it that it seems pointless due to the fact all the video image quality is mainly the same.

I can stand behind this as well.  I've been in the snow and seen 2 T2i's die while my 7D has seen 10-15 days in snow and is still going strong.  I've seen the 5d's have backscreen issues from snow as well.
