I skied JJs yesterday for a bit, first time I've skied a pow ski or rockered ski cause I'm from NJ, and don't own anything rockered. I'm in colorado for a week. I got a decent bit of powder on them, they felt all surfy and cool. I think I'm a noob at powder though (I went for going on edge several times before I figured it out), so that's about all I can say. But after I fgured that out, they kinda ride like a surfboard where the tail(s) track and you angle the skis/board and float around.

They carved normal snow very well. I thought they were decently quick edge to edge and linking turns wasn't difficult. I thought pow skis would be harder to do that, these weren't that bad. Although it seemes everything is much easier to carve when there's real snow on the slopes. I'd say they'd probably be fun everywhere. The flex is pretty nice, it seemed stiffer underfoot and like near where the ski goes from normal sidecut to getting thinner again they're softer. I had no problem going fast over variable stuff. I'm going back to loveland tomorrow and if they got snow I'm gonna take them out again. And these were older models, like 1 or 2 seasons ago.

from my knowledge JJ if you want to go faster and charge a little harder because it is very stiff underfoot. EP if you want a super playful more mellow pow ski

I have JJ and love them , if you need a ski for charging or high speed go whit thw JJ. If you want to ski the bc like a park buy the ep pro.

for people interested,
i'm 5'9/181cm tall
weight 165lbs / 75kg

i love my EP pros, very floaty, lots of rocker, great for butters, very forgiving on bad landings due to the softness, can carve on soft groomers but shatters like hell on hardpack ice, very easy to throw around and even fun in the park, if you ski groomers in between your runs the ski is a blast ! if you keep your speed normal the ski is quite stable and butters almost automatically, ollies and nollies or however you call em are also very easy...

consistent freeriding in champagne powder/powder or heavy pow is very good, but as soon as you hit variable snow with icepatches/crud you're gonna feel like dying if you aren't 100% on the game ...

So in short, in good conditions the ski is very forgiving and can be ridden quite relaxed
in bad conditions (ice/crud/variable snow) you better ride in a more active stance or you're gonna get bucked around...

if you're on your game and know how to ride hard you can push the ski through anything except hard carving on ice ...

I have the 2011 EP's and I could't agree more with you! They rock everywhere, Park, Pow and Groomers is love but ice is more like instant death!!

I hate the EP Pro.  It's not good at anything but skiing super deep pow at moderate speeds.  If you don't like to challenge yourself, go ahead and buy that.  It sucks and folds over like a bitch ski.

The JJ is versatile and fun.  A much better all around option.

5'3" 118lbs, 175 JJ's mounted +2cm from recommended

This ski is sick for everything.  Great float, playful (maybe not as much as EPs but enough for me), enough camber to hold an edge on the whole mountain.  EP's seem like noodles that wouldn't charge anything very well.  It really depends on what you're looking for though.

pollard is also pollard. he's a small dude and a really really good skier. if you're not landing completely on point with ep pros (and weigh more than 160 pounds) you'll wheelie out every single time. they're great skis if you're light weight or if you land perfectly every time you leave the ground. they're not very forgiving otherwise. the new ski from line, mr. pollard's opus, is much better than the ep, in my opinion. stiffer, narrower, and a more mild rocker. skied them last week and they jam.

Just to start things off, these skis are both COMPLETELY different.

I've got EP's and they are super fun, great for low angle pow skiing, pillows, trees, buttering around and just super playful type of riding....I got mine for cheap so I'm gonna keep em and ride em out until I can afford some JJ's but the EP's will still stick around for playful types of riding. Anything serious, steep, sketchy I wouldn't want to be stuck with EP's haha.

I would recommend the JJ's though, I've demoed them and they are an amazing ski. On groomers they can carve great, on chop they cut thru and still ski great and in pow they are down right epic. They are super versatile and can literally do everything amazingly. They have a very nice flex which is forgiving enough for washed landings but stuff enough to charge on all types of snow. You can go with a park ski and the JJ's w/ dukes or barons if your tour or some solid bindings and thats literally a perfect 2 ski quiver...They will kill it from hardpack, to 4 inches of pow and up to 3ft of blower...You just really can't go wrong with them, and if you ever decide to sell you will get a big chunk of cash back.

If you just want a fun playful ski and you ski mostly low angle trees, pillows, jibs, and stuff like that the EP's will kill it...and really if your a good skier you can kill it anywhere with any fucking ski haha...I don't mind riding mine on groomers and in the park either...carving off the lip and doing big 1s,3s and 5s is super fun. My homie with JJ's rides them everywhere...from steep lines to rails and they seem to kill it as well, it all depends on what YOU like doing.

^And yeah I realize I kinda wrote what everyone has been saying, but just trying to get the point across that they are both opposite, both can kill it and in the end run its really the skier who makes the ski what it is!

Moment Bibby/Nighttrain. Nothings better. I haven't skied the JJ but I've skied the EPs and they feel like skiing a slow, clumsy sponge. Then again it wasn't in pow, but if you plan on skiing groomers/park at all with em, go moment

I've owned two pairs of EPs and had a few days on JJs.

I loved my EPs when I had them, they're amazing on the deep days. I had I could charge lines on them when the snow was really good, but when it got heavy/variable/hard/chunky (basically anything other than perfect) then charging became terrifying because they are so soft they don't have the power to force the snow if you get what I mean. They don't bust crud they just flap over it etc. If you want to ski pillows, trees and small drops forwards and backwards in very deep snow then the EP is pretty unbeatable. But if you want to do much else, there are better options.

JJs are stiff underfoot but they seemed to be fairly soft in the tips/tails. Not EP pro soft but still fairly flappy. They do better on groomed but I found the radius to be too short to be much fun. The -5 recommended point means they are generally less jibby than EPs and other options in the same sort of style of ski. In pow I found them pretty good but not spectacular.

I now ride Bent Chetlers and I think they are better than both overall. They are more jibby than the JJ but they still charge well. The flex is more even throughout the ski. A bit softer underfoot than the JJ but slightly stiffer in the tip/tail. I find them better on groomed than the JJ because of the longer radius, and better in pow because they are wider. Compared to the EP they are slightly less floaty/surfy but not much. And when the snow gets crappy I no longer fear death.

5'7" 110lbs...= 175 JJ's. They put me on the 165 VJJ.... turns out I like the length of the 175 a lot more.

If you can demo.... 178 Pow from Libtech carves like no other powder ski I have ever skied.

Rocker 2 was fun as well.

just back from a week in france, zero freshies and only hardpack, park had no rails/boxes, just big airs
i had my Scott P4 (108mm hard charging ski) and movement joysticks, medium stiff park ski and my EP pros with me, ended up skiing the entire week on my ep pros

even tough the conditions were anything but suited for the EPP i enjoyed them, if you go really deep in your turns you'll be carving so hard that people start to turn heads (also because when you're going hard and deep the ski sprays like a bitch and look super sick)
slashes, even on hardpack look sick (ski displaces so much snow, it's rediculous how big your sprays are)

and velocity on the jumps was sick, i could start the lowest on the in-run of all parkrats and still go deep on the landing (maybe also because the skis float through the air)
floaty 1s/3s/5s were super nice with these big guys, landings were also very forgiving due to the softness

butters, taps, ollies were also a thing tht made the ski superfun, every roller or bump in the snow becomes a jib feature + you can pop really high once you get a feeling for the ski ....

haven't skied the JJS, but the EPP is definately the most fun i've ever had on a ski

only when i was racing some friends down the slopes i wished i had my p4s or something stiffer, but still the EPP stood his man fairly ok, only the really choppy snow/hard ice was a problem .....

unless you like to ski agressivly...that is. And why want a soft ski in pow? every ski with rocker is inherently sft in pow, but the ones with a stiffer flex are much more versatile.

this is an amazing review, you make me want my EPs back!

One thing I can't understand is how you get so much speed. I found on both my old EP and my Chetlers, that I have to drop higher/push/skate to get enough speed, when I have no problem on my Lizzies. Aren't rockered skis usually slower due to lack of running length?

Well... I own both :) It really depends on what type of ski you're looking for.  I've had 35+ days on my JJs so far and they have slayed all around (except when there was a 1/4 inch of ice but who wants to ski that shit anyway?).  I think the JJ's stiffness is pretty perfect and is great in the powder but can get you back to the lift in chopped up shit. I've only had 3 days on my EPPs 2 days in wet snow when there hadn't been snow in a week and one day where there was 3-4 inches powder the night before.   The handled really well in the powder obviously but even with 4 inches fresh it felt like you needed at least another 3 inches to really make bringing them out worth it.  I'm not one for groomers but I rode the groomers on them a couple of times and they did really well and were a lot of fun, especially switch.  On chopped up shit or moguls they were just plain scary they are way to soft for no new snow runs that are not groomed.  You cannot ski as fast as you'd like in skied over runs at all with the EPPs due to their softness.  Anyway, it really just depends what you are looking for.  If you're looking for a ski that will be amazing in 6+ inches of fresh go with the EPP. If you're looking for a ski that kicks ass in the powder but can do everything else with ease go with the JJ.

I love the people saying you can't ski aggressively on the EP's.  What a joke, Pollard shreds harder than all of you and thats basically all you ever see him on.  I do agree though that this years EPs are much more versatile due to the stiffer flex.

also you dont think he doesnt have different flex ep pros at his disposal?

flimsy shit doesnt charge well, it works well at slower speeds.

Do you ever see Pollard skiing in chopped up shit or ice with EPPs? You can definitely ski aggressively them in soft snow all you want but if there hasn't been any new snow for a few days then you cannot ski them aggressively at all but maybe I'm just a vagina.

The JJ's are sold out everwhere and the EP's are being replaced by the much more narrow Mr. Pollard's Opus.

I don't like Armada skis but I think that speaks for itself.
