Does Focusing on Something Enhance skiing abilities?

Yesterday i was at my local mountain (it's really a hill) and i was trying to do a front side switch up to blind side 270 out (k-fed) on a 15 ft. rail. I was beginning to get very frustrated, about to leave the rail, when an older friend of mine showed up. We talked for a little and I explained what i was trying to do. He then procceded to tell me that if i focus on a stick of butter i'll be able to land it. I did this and got the k-fed immediately . I was just wondering if focusing on a specific object or listening to your favorite music seems like it helps your abilities?

I tend to try to focus on the end of the rail and clear my mind.

i think it has more to do with clearing your mind. if thinking about a stick of butter works then go for it! i dont have anything specific i use but i let my mind think of other things for a run. sometimes i just pretend im not actually going to do anything until i get to the feature.

i remember my when we had a philosophy lesson and the teacher was teaching us how to meditate and he told us to imagine peeling an orange to clear our minds

If I think about the trick before doing it I probably wont' do it. I just kinda hope I don't die and it has worked very well after adopting that strat. BUUUUUUTTTER FTW! grats on the k-fed though!

It's less about thinking about a random object, and more about just not intently focusing on what you're doing. A lot of the time, if you try too hard on a single trick that you're frustrated with you'll do worse than when you started out (that happens to me at least), so if you think about something else you don't remember how frustrated you are and the trick just comes to you. I'm sure there's some psychological aspect to it, but meh.

i'll chime in here. Focussing too much is like overthinking a question on a test. you kind of get all turned around with everything and second guess yourself. you want to go into it calm, relaxed, and committed while visualizing it.
Whatever helps you get into this frame of mind... music, friends, onlookers, or maybe stomping a trick you feel comfortable a few times. For me it's music
