did a tutorial on goggle dying since so many people have questions about it.

hope this helps answer all the questions you guys have on it.

the trick to getting it real dark is salt and constant heat
The hotter it is, the easier the dye takes to the plastic, and salt will raise the boiling point of the water.
just a good tip i learned form dying lacrosse heads

you used a lot of dye for that. When i dyed my boots i used two  packs of for a 10 gallon storage container.

i agree it probably was overkill, but i wanted the black to really set in. you can never be too concentrated wen it comes to black.

you could possibly sand it down until its white or really light blue and then dye it.  I have no idea if that will work just saying

only the denim riggers can be sanded down and dyed(and look good)

i tried sanding down a pair of rigs and dying them and it comes out sketchy and uneven looking. your better off trying to trade your blues for yellows.

well, if you use that dye extractor/bleach stuff that rit makes, it will deff bring the tone down, i got some blue out riggers to go yellow like that, but they were originally white then i dyed them blue, then bleached wich turned them yellow, cause if you do the bleach really strongly then it has a yellow tint rather than clear.

How man, thanks so much for this vid, it really helps! I have some shitty old scott goggles that are white so I might try dying those. If I want to take the foam off, what should I use to re-glue them back on? also, when dying a strap, will it dye it to a solid colour or if say it's an oakley strap, will the "O" still remain on it? Again, thanks for the vid and hopefully i'll hear back from you.

as for the scott goggles, if your gonna take the foam off you can easily just put it back on with super glue. it holds and it isnt affected by water or cold, so its good for snow goggles.

as for dying the straps, the light color on the strap will always dye a solid color, and the black will stay black.
for instance, i dyed my text crowbar strap pink. all the white turned to a solid shade of pink, and the black text and the oakley O stayed black. so now i have a pink and black text strap instead of the previous white and black.
this is how it turned out

the same goes for a black oakley strap with a white O. only the O would be dyed since its the only white part on the strap.

wait... so you get the water boiling put the die in stir it up, do you turn off the heat when you put the goggles in, i wouldn't want them to get melted

Thanks so much for the response zagfan5. This is a great thread 11.5/10! Hopefull I can turn my crappy goggles into something with at least a little bit of steeze. One more question, does it affect the goggles if they touch the bottom of the pot seeing as it is metal and will be extremly hot? Would it melt the plastic of the goggles? Anyways thanks again.

Ya sweet tutorial +++K. Seems like your hands got dyed a little as you explained. Anyone who would be worried about that can always use those latex gloves to keep the hands clean...just a thought

you can dye glossy text oakleys. i dyed my glossy text riggers and it workd perfect. still had the gloss on it too. it was sick.

Ok so today i dyed my googles and i just want to give out some info on what happend:

So i have some soldiers that were a really dark brown that faded to a yellow. I had and all black setup so i dyed them black.
First of all i think this really sealed the deal... i bought liquid. This was becuase i found an old pot to use and to get the water at the right height i had to use 28cups of water. So i was gonna buy a shit load of dye to get it really concertrated but then i realized that the powder might not disolve. So i bought two bottles of liquid and empyted them out.
Also i wanted everything to get dyed black so i just took the lense out and put everything in (also not sure if you can take them apart). Which worked fine, except that the little rigger things on the side that hold the strap were a different plastic which took differently to the dye, so that turned a darker brown like in this video, while the rest turn a solid black. So yea it worked really really well.
And lastly when i put the googles in, due to the heat the foam came off so just to let anyone know it might come of (which isnt a big deal it can b re glued like he said)

So yea anyone trying to dye soldiers its still fine to just putt everything but the lense in if u want a solid color

you have to wash out the dye in the foam with liquid laundry soap a few times so it gets all the dye out of the foam. after i dye them i rinse them with cold water, the with hot water and laundry soap, let it dry full, then repeat that 1 or 2 more times. letting it dry fully every time you repeat the rinsing with laundry soap step.
