Mounting +2 of center

if anyone has their skis mounted at +1 or 2 of center, can you give me my opinion on how they ride. i ski all park and mostly jumps and some rails/boxes. i am thinking about mounting +2 on 08 chronics in a 181.  I searchbared this and could not find anything and please dont say mount them at recomended, because i will not do that under any circumstances. i am just looking for the facts of how they perform.

i go center, +2 would only benefit you if you ride switch waaaaay more than forewards.

yea i really dont care about that. it doesnt destroy the side cut, you are just skiing ahead of it. i skied public enemies mounted at like +4 and they skied fine. its not like teh ski is going to fall apart because you arent skiing over the skinniest part.

actually yes it does. you're putting pressure on the sides of the ski that aren't meant to have pressure on them while you are turning.

I've always skied my skis mounted + something, my armada ar6 were around + 3 and my urban punx last year were + 1. I find the benefits to be wayyy better switch landings, riding and take off. Also when landing forward back seat you have more to lean on so you wash out and sit on your skis a lot less. also nose presses/grabs/butters are easier, tail grabs/presses look sicker and you can milk the pop out of your tails more, especially for like switch butter 3s or 5s off stuff. And lastly, it looks super baller when you havea bit more tail than nose.

I wouldn't want to limit myself in any way, so I would get a ski thats meant to be skied at center...and ski it at center.

i dont understand the logic of mounting ahead of center at all... i can understand center, but ahead just seems like it would make the ski perform poorly

agreed. chronics are ment to be mounted -2 or 3 back from center so just mount them backwards so when you ski switch they'll ski the way the are supposed to. i mean i wouldn't do it, but if its what you want then consider doing that.

Yeah, if you are going to do it, do it backwards.

But, I wouldn't do it, just go at center. It isn't that much of a difference, I would want the ski to ski both ways equally.

everything you said sounds does sound good. i personally couldnt justify killing the skiing ability of my skis in the name of better butters and grabs, but whatever floats your boat

Lyndon (I think) was a huge proponent of mounting forward. I dunno, personal preference I guess, I've never skied on skis mounted that way.

thank you. + karma for actually giving me reasons to do it and not reasons why it "kills" the ski like is said not to tell me. im pretty sure the ski will not fall apart and again to whoever said it, i will NOT mount anywhere back of center no matter what the ski. that just pointless for me. all i asked for was the way they skied and you gave it to me. thanks

in all seriousness they have a symmetrical flex and a slightly off centre sidecut.. if you want to be in front of centre, then mount them backwards.. that way you mount +2 on the recommended line and you are pressuring the ski in the right place

im bumping my thread because i just got a call from the technician.
i drew a line on the chronics that was about 1 cm forward of center. i came home from school today and there was a massage saying that the line i drew would not work. has anyone had this problem? im gonna call him back in a little bit and he said he wants to ask questions and that he called Line up to see about mounting positions. i know he is going to say that i should mount at reccommended which i will absolutely not do. does anyone have and help for me? im going to pm line skis to see what they say. thanks

i just called him back, he was real chill about it. he said to mount 62 mm forward of recommended which is centered. i didnt want to fight with him about it so its no big deal. and he said i should get a call back later today to pick them up

I'd mount backwards if anything. Techs are usually a pain to deal with unless they know about newschool skiing and whatnot.

Why not just get symmetrical skis??? There are so many out there.

well i got 08 chronics for $200 brand new so you cant go wrong with that. it was between the chronics and addict pros which were $230, which is still cheap. but w/e i wanted to try something new and thats not gonna happen. center is still goo enough

so i'm just curious, both for you and the other guys that are mounting + of center... the k2 lines on the sidewalls of their skis are not an indicator for ski center but are for core center, which is different. so when you say you were riding at +4 on the pe's does that mean by the k2 scale (so +4 of core center) or did you actually have the shop measure out ski center and then mount +4 of that? and to the other guys that have expirience with the + mounting (like whoever said they were riding the AR6's), are you basing that off ski center or core center?

To jollygreengiant, I know what you're talking about and I hate dealing with n00b gaper technicians that are like "woaahh dude how are you gonna ski on those?? like ive NEVER seen this! its too dangerous this will never work you're crazy man!!". anyway that's why I go to the same ski shop near my house every time (been going for about 5 years now) so they know me and know what I like and will just do what I say no questions asked. That's pretty much the only way to avoid trouble.

To the guy above me, I always mix up true center and core center but basically what I do is measure out my ski tip to tip (not following the curve of the tips though) and divide that length in half. Then from the half mark i made, i measure + wtv I want and I tell the shop to make the center of my boot fall on that line.
