Women's Slope was the penultimate ski event at this year's X, and perhaps one of the most exciting. The level of women's skiing is going through the roof right now. We're going to go out on a limb and say that it's becoming more fun to watch than the men's events these days and slope was no exception. The level, especially on the rails was the best we've ever seen and the jumps were pretty next level too. Perfect conditions in Aspen made for one of the best slopestyle shows in some time.
Anastasia opened proceedings with a full pull, pretty basic on the tech but clean and the cork 9 on the last jump was dope. Rell looked strong on the rails, as did Ruby Star Andrews but neither could stomp their jumps. There were a few speed issues here and there too but it was all about landing perfect. Giulia Tanno came out swinging with some clean swaps and a combo of switch twos... plus a dub 10 to round things out. Sarah H was a smidge away on a few of her rails but both ways switch 2s and a disaster 4 would set her up for a good score. Tess Ledeux then put down an absolute heater. Both ways switch 2s of her own, backswap backslide on the rainbow and then dub 12 into switch dub 14 on the jumps... insane, probably the best women's slope run ever. She scored a 95.33, raising the bar, the roof and everything in between. Mathilde couldn't put it down but after one, Tess's run seemed pretty unbeatable.
Anastasia stepped up her final jump to a dub 12 but landed nose heavy. Rell Harwood put it down on the second go too, switch bio 9 went to the knuckle but she had a dub 12 of her own on the final hit. Another full pull from Giulia Tanno, stepping up her penultimate hit but tickling the tail on a switch 9. Still an improvement, 88.0. Sarah H put it down cleaner but her 4 on was still definitively loose. Mathilde also stomped a run but some little rail bobbles and less than locked grabs meant it was only third despite a stomped switch dub 10.
Nothing much changed on Run three except for the final run of the day, when Mathilde stepped up her run, improving the bio 9 and going blunt on her switch dub 10. It was enough for second but not to challenge Tess who took home a dominant win and a never before seen second Big Air & Slopestyle double gold. Tess LeGold indeed.
