The WhatCoast crew just released their movie for 2011 and since a bunch of the guys spend their summers working at Windells, we thought we’d check in with them and learn a little more of what they’re all about. Head Counselor Cody Lee and Counselor Tristan Sadler, along with friend Tyler Rullo filled us in with this info. Here’s the word from Cody, and make sure to check out the movie!

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT WHATCOAST–WHAT IS IT?

WhatCoast was an idea conceived in a Chinese restaurant parking lot by Tristan Sadler and Tyler Rullo. They had the idea for a blog and finally committed to the name and the account. From there we’ve just been posting whatever skate and snow content we liked, whether it’s our own content or our friends’.

HOW DID EVERYONE COME TOGETHER AND MEET UP TO BECOME PART OF WHATCOAST?

It’s funny ,because we’re still in the process of meeting everyone. Since we’ve got people blogging on the East and West, we rarely get a chance to actually see each other. The tree starts with Tristan and Tyler and kinda branches out from there, now we’ve got three bloggers in Utah and two in Pennsylvania. Maybe we’ll get some more here soon…

WHAT WAS A HIGHLIGHT WHILE FILMING FOR THE MOVIE LAST YEAR?

The highlight for “Come Out To Play” was without a doubt Tristan’s trip back home to Pennsylvania. He’s been hitting rails there forever and showed the DC team around while they were on a resort tour. We actually still have some of the shots from that, maybe they’ll be out in a bonus edit or something.

WHAT WAS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT PARTS OF FILMING THE MOVIE?

Tyler says, “the GoPro suction mount kept falling off the snowboard.” And Tristan and I would definitely say getting a hold of all the footage is the most difficult part. We’ve got friends all over the place that we put in the movie, since we can’t all film together, getting the footage in time to edit is always a struggle. That’s what happens with rider-filmed movies like these.

NOW THAT THE SEASON IS STARTING FOR 2012, ARE YOU GUYS GOING TO BE FILMING FOR ANOTHER MOVIE? WEBISODES? WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM WHAT COAST THIS YEAR?

“We’ll See”. That’s the title for our movie next year, but we’ll see what happens besides that. Tristan and I will be in Utah hitting rails, jumps, and cruising around Park City, Brighton, and Snowbasin. Tyler will be skating all over PA and he’s got some webisodes that release on January 1st.
