The Gathering

The Gathering 3.0 Focuses Top Ski Lensmen on RED Mountain for End-of-Season Bash

For a third year running, the ski world’s most recognized photographers and athletes will rendezvous at RED Mountain Resort, British Columbia’s renowned powder hole.

‘The Gathering’ has become known as a premier specialty event that celebrates the inspiring images arising every winter from the mountains in which we practice our sport. Deliberately avoiding the frenzy of mixed media digital cut-ups, the Gathering puts a meditative focus on the deep and masterful long-distance journeys of gifted lensmen.

This year’s three days of skiing and nighttime events will be enhanced by partnerships with Salomon and Powder Magazine, icons of the ski world that share both heritage and stoke for the celebration of mountain culture.

The Gatherings I and II were off the hook, with ski-lebrities from Europe, North America, and Down Under sharing stories and images and shred the legendary terrain of Red Mountain. The Gathering 3.0 will focus on the techniques of creating the timeless images that push generations of adventurers to keep upping their game.

This year’s festivities will kick-off on Friday, March 25th at 3:00pm on the deck of the new RED Mountain Lodge, where several of BC’s finest wineries will provide guests with a sampling of their limited production. The 7:00pm All-Star photo night in the lodge will be followed by live music in the infamous 60-year-old Rafters Pub. Saturday, March 26th will start with a gang-skiing warm-up for the Gala photo evening at the Rossland Miners Hall, which begins at 7:00pm.

Featured presentations by Ace Kvale, Mike Douglas, Mark Shapiro, Dave Heath, Paul Morrison, Steve Ogle, Bryan Ralph, Grant Gunderson, Derek Frankowski, Francois Marseille (and the list is still growing…) will be hosted by Mitchell Scott, who attained dubious notoriety last year with his “Red Sucks” skit going viral on YouTube.

RED Mountain’s heritage as the original ski resort of Western Canada makes it the perfect location to bring together the old guard of the ski world with young up-and-coming skiers, snowboarders, photographers and filmmakers of the vibrant Kootenay region. The Gathering is a TMP (The Mountain Project) event and another signal of RED Mountain’s growing reputation as a crossroads of international mountain professionals.
