According to the Vancouver Sun, a snowboarder passed away last Saturday morning in Whistler. The 27-year-old was skiing a glade area in Blackcomb Resort’s Crystal Ridge area when he faced problems in the deep snow.
Whistler Blackcomb ski patrol found the man at 12:15 p.m. Despite CPR efforts before and after patrol arrived, he was pronounced dead at 1:17 p.m. Saturday. It is expected that the man fell face first in the deep snow, where he then suffocated. Whistler Search and Rescue manager Brad Sills reported unstable conditions, in addition to unmarked early season hazards.
Whistler posted an article about tree well safety last Friday. Read it here.
As stoked as we are to welcome the winter season, be safe out there and always ski with a buddy!
